So I used to be able to match Stephen King’s It (1990) using the drop-down agent box, I could select the Movie DB and it would always find the movie. Now, in the agent drop-down, I only have Plex Movie. I have tried Stephen King’s It (1990), It (1990), imdb-tt0099864, and tmdb-19614. Nothing even comes close. Sometimes, it will come up with the new remake as a result but I can’t find the original on the list. I know technically it is a TV Movie but this used to work before Plex Movie was the only agent on the list.
I understand that it is technically a 2 part tv show but I used to be able to have it as a movie since it is a single movie file. I could match it as I do any other movie and it would match it just fine when I was able to change the agent in the drop down from plex to movie db.
The online repositories used for metadata by Plex were more lax about that kind of stuff in the past. Back then you could find “It” both as a movie and tv-show record.
The platforms have since doubled-down working on “cleaning” their data – this includes banning such “duplicate” records in different categories.
So… if you had your library match the “movie” then, Plex would have succeeded. Since there’s now no more record, this is no longer possible.
Well, that sucks. Guess I’ll just manually create all of the data. Thanks. Just makes no sense to put the movie in TV Shows since it’s a movie, not a mini-series or even episodes of any kind.
You might own a disc where this was released as a 1-part movie.
It was originally released as a mini-series… there’s no arguing that. That doesn’t mean you need to like it.
You can name a single file as /Stephen Kings It (1990) {tmdb-19614}/Stephen Kings It - S01E01-E02.mp4 once in a TV Library and plex will pull the episode metadata for both episodes.
I had this same issue with the same movie, and just manually added the metadata (I’m used to doing so because of all the fan edits in my collection). I’d love an IFDB agent integration, but I know that’s just a fantasy at this point (and the third party plugins no longer work, so it is what it is).
The reason I’m chiming in is because this is a great example of why we need a more robust metadata management system. We should be able to add cast and multiple production companies/studios to the metadata manually. Possibly even a way to manually add a link to Rotten Tomatoes entries to pull in ratings? Not sure if this is a feature that’s already in the works or not, but adding cast and multiple companies works incredibly well in Emby (though that interface is a bit clunky and slow), and adding this to Plex would go a long way to making custom content feel more “at home” in our libraries.
I’m agnostic over the issue, we’re at the mercy of movie database websites. I had to look it up in my library to see where it was - in Movies. My question is over managing my library. What method would I use in a very sizeable library to learn that I have a (former) movie that has lost it’s metadata after no longer being in the movie database?? Scrolling through 13k movies isn’t very practical…
