Plex Movie Agent Not Matching Movies

Server Version#: 1.26.0.5715

I just upgraded my computer & have reinstalled plex. Just added 5 movies & the Plex Movie Agent won’t match any of them. It is the only option when I try to match a movie. Is there anyway to force this thing to match my movies???

  1. Make sure the movie files are named and organized so Plex can figure out what they are.
  2. Do these movies exist in the IMDb or TheMovieDb’s database?

If those don’t resolve the issue, a little more info about the movies might be helpful, and the log files would also help.

beckfield,
Yes, the movies are named correctly & are on IMDB & The Movie database. This issue just popped up after I upgraded the computer I use as my main PLEX server. The other computer I use as a backup has them named correctly & was able to match them.

I’ve been using PLEX for about 7 or 8 years & this is the 1st time I’ve run into anything like this. When I try to enable any of the agents like the movie data base, they just don’t show up as an option for matching.

I’m thinking of uninstalling PLEX & installing an older version & then upgrade it to the latest version of the PLEX Server.

Well that’s weird… I rebooted for like the 5th time & now everything is just fine… I guess I got lucky by doing nothing at all.

I am having a problem getting a made-for-TV movie (originally a 2 part mini-series) to match using the new Plex movie agent. This mini-series is in the form of a single (3hr) movie and it does appear in The Movie Database.

But I can not get the Plex Movie agent to find it.
Plex server is up to date at version 1.26.1.5798

That’s because it is not a movie, but a mini-series.
Because of that, you can only match it as such – in a “tv show” type of library.

I wanted to add my ‘2 cents’ here.

Plex DOES match some mini series, it’s hit and miss.
‘It’ (1990 miniseries) does not match
‘Salem’s Lot’ (2004 miniseries) does not match
However, I have dozens and dozens of Hallmark mini series that do match.

So there really is no ‘hard rule of thumb’ that mini series do not match, it’s really just a crap shoot.

Why can’t the ‘new Plex’ just be a bit more flexible, like the ‘old Plex (pre 2022)’ was.
We used to be able to have ‘It’ (1990) and ‘Salem’s Lot’ (2004) as movies. But January of 2022, that ability was broken.
And it was BROKEN. Because many many many mini series are still allowed.
If you want to debate that fact, I will gladly go research and give you a list. But there are dozens of mini series that Plex allows to be movies.
I’ve actually found only 2 that I have that are not allowed, and those are the 2 above.
I have dozens of mini series that I captured as a single movie, and those are allowed as movies.
(V.C. Andrews' Heaven (TV Mini Series 2019) - IMDb for example, is a mini series, but Plex allows it to be a movie
There was also a mini series ‘Signed, Sealed, Delivered’, most (not all) of those will register as a movie, even though they are mini series)

I’m just asking, if it’s ok for romance mini series to be movies, why can’t horror mini series be movies.

Plex is not deciding which miniseries will also match as a movie. That’s solely dependent on whether there is a record on TheMovieDB.org for this title in the category “movie”.
A few years ago, TheMovieDB decided to not allow miniseries to be also added as movies. Their moderators have been taking down those “movie” records if they became aware of them.

Plex is simply using the metadata of TheMovieDB.
