There’s a currently airing documentary series which I can’t get to match. It’s called “Inside…” and each episode has its own title for the building being shown.
You can find this on theTVDB by searching:
- Series name: Inside…
- Series name search: Starts with
That will bring you to here: http://thetvdb.com/index.php?seriesname=Inside…&fieldlocation=1&language=7&genre=&year=&network=&zap2it_id=&tvcom_id=&imdb_id=&order=translation&addedBy=&searching=Search&tab=advancedsearch
That’s the correct series.
And inside our file system in the TV Shows library directory we have a folder named “Inside…” but Plex refuses to match this to theTVDB.
When I try to manually search and match the series, it doesn’t even list it. I feel there are two issues:
- The Plex search options are extremely limited. When matching manually, and clicking Search options, I can only enter the series name and year (the other two search options Agent and Language don’t help much with matching). There’s no pattern matching option for “Starts with” or similar, like on theTVDB site.
- The results are inadequate. If I search theTVDB for “Inside” I get dozens of series. Plex lists eight. Even if I type the name exactly as “Inside…” and even enter the year as 2017, the list that’s returned in the search appears to ignore the “…” and doesn’t list any Inside series from 2017.
I don’t think there’s anything I or anybody else can do to creatively match this series correctly with the current automatic or manual methods in Plex.
I don’t mind that the automatic matching hasn’t worked. I think it could work if it paid attention to the “…” in the folder name, but it shouldn’t matter - there’s a manual matching option.
But the manual matching can’t work if Plex won’t return the results from theTVDB to be selected.
Not sure what to do here, other than highlight this and hope the Plex devs can make a change.
Any other suggestions?
