Unable to open plex server web

Server Version#: Plex Media Server v1.25.4.5468-989df2310
Player Version#:
Synology Version #: DSM 7.0.1.42218-2,

Completely out of the blue, no updates to either synology or plex I have an issue opening the server web page. The server is running and I can use the app fine. I reinstalled the server, keeping files. Tried different browsers, usual restarts. The page opens briefly, refreshes then I get a can’t open page error.

Server log below. Would appreciate some guidance here please.

That log snippet isn’t saying much.
Have you already tried rebooting your server?

Yes I did. I restarted plex with no effect and also restarted the NAS that is a fresh log after the reinstall and restart. It contains the two attempts to open the web page.

You need to enable DEBUG logging for us to help more.

Install the Synology Text Editor if not installed.
Stop Plex
Using FileStation, navigate to PlexMediaServer/AppData/Plex Media Server
Right-click “Preferences.xml” → Open with Text Editor
The text editor will open.
Go to the last line, far right, before the closing />
Add the preference by name: logDebug="1"
It will look like this:

SomeOtherPref="Value"  logDebug="1"/>

Save the file
Now start Plex
Let it run for 2 minutes
Stop Plex
Right-Click Logs (the folder) → Compress to Logs.zip
Download that file and attach it here.

It’s acting as if it’s not accepting the web client’s authentication and then the web client closes the connection.

I’d like to take this in steps.

Step 1 – Reset the certificate

I’ve reset the server’s certificate.
Please restart the server
Next please close then reopen the browser
Open the syno by its LAN IP address

I am not 100% confident this is the problem but something between the web client and server is refusing to connect. Resetting the certificate is the first step

Should this fail, we will reclaim the server.

Ok so I assume the cert reset was something you do? The server was stopped so I started it, logged out of Synology gui and restarted browser. Unfortunately same thing is happening.

Ok, now we try the next step.

Uninstall the package with the KEEP option (which is the default)
Manual install it again -
– Select the Plex Claim Token option (Lost server)
– Click the ‘Get Plex Token’ blue link
– When the browser opens, COPY the token into your browser
– Return to the installer page
– PASTE the claim-xxxxx string into the installer’s little window
– Click NEXT until it starts to install
It will take an additional 15-30 seconds to install while it negotiates new credentials with Plex.tv
Installation will complete with the message that it’s claimed for your Plex username (which it will show you). (If blank then we have the error)

After reclaim is complete, you should now be able to open the server directly by its LAN IP (with you and it on the same subnet for that first connect)

I go a claim receipt as expected but sadly the issue still happens. A point to note is that it is onLy when it tries to render my library that it fails and retries. It all happens within a few secs though.

I happened to check on a device that I have never used before and I was able to open plex. However I get an error for my library and I don’t have access to it. I was able to access the server settings though. I decided while there I would remove the other devices having connectivity issues. This worked in terms of allowing plex to open but I can’t access my library from anywhere now.

I had some success earlier. I redid the cert renew procedure and also checked shared folder permissions. Shared folder permissions were “custom”, no idea why. Set them to read/write. I then had access. I redid the pinning and sorting of the Home Screen and boom back to square one. I never messed with any of this prior to the issue happening so red herring maybe. Gonna stop messing and give you a chance to figure stuff out. Appreciate the help.

The server is responding but the plex/web isn’t getting it?

I have tried multiple browsers and devices just in case, Crome/edge/safari.

Is there a way to return the server to defaults without access to the gui or should I just uninstall getting rid of files etc? Not sure what else to try here.

@ChuckPa the issue is resolved. I installed a new browser on my device (Edge) not used before on this device and it prompted me to login. Existing Edge on another device didn’t”t work! On login I saw the default of home, movies and more. I could expand more and see my libraries but when I selected each in turn the issue only happened for Films. Because I had films at the top of the pinned list it seemed to crash the gui straight away. I removed it, a sync ran and then I added it back. Another sync. Now all is sweet. No idea what happened here sadly. Would be nice to know but at least it is solved.

Appreciate your time on this.
