Unable to open web settings page

Server Version#: 1.30.0.6406

Plex Media Server is running on 7.55.0-2ubuntu3.21 amd64

After not opening the plex web app for over almost 2 years because of medical issues I recently got back onto it.
I found that the web app would not fully open when browsing directly to the server ip address.
If I have already opened the page and got an error then efforts to re-open the page result in “The site can’t be reached” error from the browser. Then I need to stop and start plex media server to get it to re-open.

When it opens and displays login choices and from there I get mixed results.
Sometimes it fails to show any local media and reports that it cannot connect to the resource.
Other times it will show media but then shows an error when trying to edit a movie detail.
At all times I get an error when trying to open the settings page.

When trying to edit a movie details - " There was an error editing this item".
When trying to open settings page - “An unexpected error occurred”.

Steps already taken:

  • Linux box is running as VM on Hyper-V so I gave the VM more RAM - 20GB
  • Restarted box
  • Ran sudo apt-get update
This took plex media server from 1.22 to 1.24
    no changes in behavior
  • downloaded latest 1.30 and installed - no issues during upgrade
    no changes in behavior
  • using ‘Plex SQLite’ did Integrity Check and reported ‘ok’
then did VACUUM, REINDEX and then integrity_check again - still ‘ok’
    no changes in behavior
  • copied the db file
  • did a dump
  • removed existing file
  • did a read from dumped file
    no changes in behavior

At this point I cannot find the log files to inspect them - where are they?
I cannot get to the settings page - please help…

Update: With my job I have access to a VPN tunnel that forces all network traffic through the remote connection. When I login to plex.tv while connected to the remote VPN the plex web ui works fine. I can open settings and I can edit media properties with no issues. Then when I try from my local network it fails.
I used to be able to open the web ui from my local network without issues.
Has something changed in the newer versions?
Or how do I setup the Plex server to allow access from my local network to the web UI?

With the discovery of the VPN difference I took a closer look at my firewall.
It had a pending firmware update - after processing the update and a reboot of the firewall/router I have local access to the web UI again.

On the down side - this has been many hours for many days to resolve.
On the up side - I now know a whole lot more about Plex under the hood than I ever thought I would know.
