Since updating my Android TV version to the latest and recently released build, I am now unable to watch any Live TV channels. No matter what I select or how I select it, I receive the message “An error occurred while attempting to play this video. Please try restarting both the Plex Media Server and this app”.
Following the instruction does not resolve the problem and I am seeing this on both my Nvidia Shield Pro 2019 and a 2019 Phillips TV. This problem was not present (for me) in the previous version and rolling back does restore access (though losing the nice new features). The other thing that ‘fixes’ it is disabling the new player which is not a preferred solution if it can be avoided.
If anyone has an alternative solution then great, otherwise highlighting to the Dev’s that the new version / TV features may have introduced problems for some.

I had this same problem on my Shield 2017. Disabling the new media player option in the Plex client software fixed it for me until Plex support fixes this obvious bug following advice in this thread:
Attached is a log from a Live TV program being recorded I was attempting to watch this morning. Starting at about line 13168 you will see errors when I was attempting to play the program from the beginning.
This set of error messages appear to repeat many times:

Please find attached some server and client logs files to supplement my original post. These logs were generated as a result of doing as little as possible other than browsing to the TV guide, selecting a live channel to watch and waiting about 5 seconds for the error to appear.
The client was a Shield 2019 pro.
Please let me know if this was not what you were expecting me to do.
Hi,
Same problem here with a Windows server serving a Shield TV 2017 on plex. Everything is update…
Is it possible to download an older server version (just one week away) to try to solve this problem? It’s maybe this…
@DaveBinM Thank you for passing on the logs and for following up with some positive information about a potential fix. I’ll keep out eye for the upcoming beta(s) and will advise (either way) whether it fixes the problem for me.
I can confirm that the error that I was seeing when attempting to watch live TV within the Android TV Plex app has been resolved within the newly released 7.31.x beta.
Just to let you know that the newest version of the beta (7.31.0.16605) has reintroduced the error with live TV that the previous beta version had resolved.
Please let me know if you need any logs on the newest version of both server and app to help troubleshoot.
Please find attached the new logs that you requested. Again, Plex should only need to look at the last 5 minutes or so of the logs for items of interest.
Steps within those last 5mins to create these logs
Not to chase a response to these logs as I know that you are busy, but I would be keen to know your thoughts given something that I have found. Essentially, I have found that all of the problems that I have with the use of the new player for both Live TV and media in my existing library disappear when I set ‘Secure Connections’ to disabled in the network settings on the server. I won’t attempt to guess why this would be the case but as a Plex server owner who shares no content outside of the home and rarely, if ever, watches anything remotely, how big an issue would you consider disabling secure connections in my use case?
Well, I’d highly recommend having it always set to required, or at least preferred. Do you use your own custom domain or certificate or anything with your server?
Similar issue, though Roku and web browser player seem to work fine, only SONY Android TV has a problem, same behaviour, Channel tries to load the Error " An error occured while attempting to play this video. Please try restarting both the Plex Media Server and this app.
