Unable to play media - Pixel (Android)

This is a strange one. If I’m on my wifi connection, everything plays on my phone perfectly. It’ll even sync and everything else.

If I use 4G it says “unable to play media”.

I’ve never had this before - it used to work well, in fact a couple of weeks ago I was streaming remotely without issue.

The only thing that’s changed is that I have a new phone - so that seems to be the only this I Can see it being.

My connection speed is not an issue (400+ down and 50+ up).
I don’t think my CPU is an issue i5 4690k @3.9GHz

In the house I can stream to multiple devices at the same time with no issues - even 4k seems fine.

It’s just the remote connection. I can access the server, see all my movies/series, I just get that unable to play media error.

Any clues as to where I should start looking?

I tried my iPhone 11 (work phone) and that seems to work fine on remote 4G connection. So it must be an android setting? But I’ve mimicked all the settings so it’s basically the same.

I’m out of ideas!

Were you able to resolve this? I’m having a similar issue, only with video files. Music and pictures are fine.

Hi!

No it seems to be still unable to play movies remotely either 720p or 1080p and HDR 4K (not that I was expecting it to work).

Within the house on WiFi it works ok. I just don’t understand what is going on.
