"Unable to play media" using Firestick

I’m new to plex posting so I hope this is the correct forum.

My brother has a library of movies in mp4 format on a plex server.
I can stream these movies on an older tv using Roku with plex. I can also stream them on a new Vizio that has the plex app. When I try to stream them on the older tv using a firestick with the plex app, I get the “Unable to play media” message.

I can stream other content such as Amazon movies and series using the firestick, so it appears to be the plex app on the firestick may be the problem.

You need to downgrade to v6.12 of the Plex app on the Firestick. This is a bug the Plex team is aware of but apparently has no interest in fixing.

Thanks - It looks like I can’t do this with a tablet so I’ll get a pc and give it a go.

Is there any way to find out when/if this bug ever gets fixed?

You can downgrade to v6.12 on the Firestick by sideloading the apk. This bug has been around for about two years, so I wouldn’t count on it ever being fixed. When Jellyfin is released for the Roku, I recommend switching over to that.

Download the 6.12 apk and install it on your Firestick.

Could someone please post detailed instructions about how to go about side loading the 6.12 app?

Plex on my Firestick works for everything other than movie files. The icon just spins and then the Plex app resets itself.

Apparently this is a known issue that Plex is not addressing.
