Unable to play newly added media..."There was a problem playing this item"

Someone please help! PMS on MacOS 10.12.1 and PMS v1.2.7.2987. Oddly enough its only with newly added media. Media is stored on a 5D Help

Does the item get playable after you let PMS Analyze it (and wait a few minutes afterwards)?

No it does not :frowning: I also created new libraries but no luck.

Please update to the latest server version and then repeat the Analysis attempt.

Do also fetch server logs again, afterwards (please wait a few minutes, though).

currently up to date i believe, on v 1.3.2.3112. Will try reanalyzing and pulling logs again, thank you for the assistance!

no such luck  attached are the newest logs

It appears you started analysis of the whole library, not just an individual item.
There were several crashes while it attempted to do that - which kinda explains the issue.

Please try just one single movie or episode, just to confirm that the inability to play is the missing analysis.
The crash needs to be investigated nonetheless, of course.

ah! apologies! i’ll give it a run on one of the items that are arent playing. Thanks again so much for the help!

Ok I’ve analyzed 1 movie that is not playing, and attached updated logs. What is it that you are looking at in the logs?

‘Southside With You’ was the movie, right?

Plex Media Scanner Analysis.log it says in there, that it has doubts about the file format. The file has a mp4 extension, but when Plex scans the file it doesn’t find a specific ‘marker’ which is present in a mp4 file.
As a consequence, media analysis may be invalid/wrong.

Is it possible, that someone “converted” these files by simply changing their file name extension?

Does the file play in a normal desktop media player? If so, what has this player to say about the file format?

Could you analyse the file with this software as well? download mediainfo here
(pay attention during installation, it comes with a ‘piggybacked’ installer which asks to install additional crapware. Make sure to set/clear the right checkboxes!)

Once it is installed, analyse the file, then go to:
File - Export - Text (Advanced mode)

I know I haven’t gotten you all the info requested, but I’ve come across something interesting. You are correct about the file ‘Southside With You’ and it hasn’t been converted. What I did find was that MediaInfo does not recognize the file or accept while it is stored on my Drobo 5D nor will it play in an external play (VLC). I placed the same file on my desktop and had MediaInfo check it again and voila file is recognized as a mp4 and plays in an external player. Do you have any idea why the Drobo might be doing this?

Sorry, no. I am actually not an Apple expert.

Pure speculation: It might have to do with some type of ‘encoding’ the drobo performs with certain file types.
If the Drobo supports several network file protocols, try a different one (AFP vs. NFS vs. SMB/CIFS).
