Hi, i’ve stored videos in my wd mycloud nas, and everything work fine when i play video in my home, but when i play from my friend’s house (by plex application in google chromecast TV connected in fullhd television) i can’t watch 4k HDR video (instead 1080 and 4k works fine), i tryed to activate DNLA, change transcode option in server, i tryed to change video resolution in plex setting option in app even in 720p but in this way occurred a error also with normal 4k video.
When i click to play the 4k HDR video a message appears with impossibility to play video.
Direct playing 4K HDR video remotely generally requires a fat Internet upload pipe. If you don’t have enough bandwidth streaming will fail.
Your NAS is not powerful enough to transcode 4K video or perform HDR->SDR tonemapping (see NAS Compatibility List). Forcing a video transcode by changing resolutions will fail.
Plex transcodes all video to H.264 which does not support HDR.
DLNA only works over the local network, not over the Internet (at least not w/o a lot of work).
Thanks, in according first of all i have to correct myself because the tv is HD not fullHD!
Based on your answer i’ve tried to watch 4k HDR from smartphone android with a 4g connection (not from the same wifi network) and it works fine (just the message to buy a plex pass to watch HDR), so i supposed that the Nas transcode work pretty fine, at this time I supposed it’s a problem of television (despite i’m using a chromecast tv that support 4k HDR).
But I don’t know why i can watch 1080p and not only 720p because the tv resolution…
