Server Version#: 1.40.0.7998-7000
Player Version#: 2.012
Hello everyone,
I use a Plex server on my NAS to watch movies and series on my smartTV and video projector (via a bluray/network player forr the projector). I’ve been using it infrequently for a while, due to lack of time, and when I tried to restart a movie a while ago, it wouldn’t work (no more access to the server from the player)… I gave up, but now I’d like to get things back on track.
So here’s the state of play.
The Plex server is installed on my Syno 218j NAS (running DSM 7.1.1-42962 update 6).
I have a Plex player on my Samsung smart TV.
I have a Plex player on my Samsung BD-H6500 Blu-ray player.
I can launch a Plex player from my local PC via a web browser.
From the PC and my TV, everything works fine after a few settings (in particular, adding the user “PlexMediaServer” to the permissions of the folders containing the files to be played. I think because of the migration DSM6 → DSM7).
On the Bluray player, I’m having trouble and it’s inevitably the one I use the most (yes, it’s much nicer to watch films on the video projector than on the TV…
).
I couldn’t reach the server at all.
So I said to myself after searching for a while: “Come on, it’s not going to take us long. I’ll just delete the app on the BR player, reinstall it and we go again!”
Unfortunately not, otherwise I wouldn’t be here
On reinstallation, you can normally obtain a 4-digit code that you just have to enter in a browser on plex.tv/link.
In my case, I have the code page, but the 4 digits are empty… so it’s impossible to enter it on the PC… I’ve got the 3 dots in the top left-hand corner that go on forever without ever displaying the code.
Never mind, I’ll connect with my Plex account. I go to the system menu, login, and … the 3 dots in the top left corner mill endlessly without ever displaying anything.
I think there’s a problem with the connection to the server, but I don’t know what parameter I can act on…
The player does have a good network connection (I did a test and Netflix works, I also have access to the movie files on the NAS via the Samsung internal browser).
The TV, which is connected to the same switch, works perfectly with PLEX…
what I tried:
- unplug the TV and delete the plex application from the TV to see if it didn’t interfere
- followed the advice on this page (https://support.plex.tv/articles/204080173-which-smart-tv-models-are-supported/) → “allow the use of unsecured connections on the same network as the server” on the server side and “use Secure connections unchecked” on the player side
- removed the Plex client on the player to see if this changed anything, but no. When I try to find the server manually I get this message: “test failed, server is reachable but it returned “access is denied”. Due to security settings, this server is only accessable, when you are logged in on your Plex account”.
- tried to connect to my account and the 3 dots in the top left corner grind indefinitely
- checked the folder permissions in FileStation: I have the users “plex” and “plexmediaserver” authorized to read and write.
I think it’s really the plex client on my player that’s buggy, but I can’t see what I can do about it
Thanks for your help, if you have any leads to investigate I’d love to hear from you
