Unable to reset media server properly

I just finished watching a TV series using another PC connected over my internal network to the Plex Media Server PC – as I have been doing for years. So, I went to that PC to open Plex to remove that series to recover some of the disk space. Plex took a LONG time to open – and when it did, it said something about Media Not Found. I checked the drive and the video files were still all there and still playable using VLC.

So, I read instructions on your site about resetting the database files, went to the directory and followed the directions to save off the current files and replace them with saved files from two weeks ago – and did this with Plex shut down.

When I rebooted the PC, I expected to see Plex status from two weeks ago but it did the same thing, so I read instructions from this site about removing and reinstalling and did all of those, including removing all the plex folders, all the registry entries, uninstalled Plex, rebooted the PC and reinstalled Plex, latest version.

I then noticed there were now TWO local media servers with the same name and the second one worked! So, I read instructions here about changing the name of the second one and selected that, and it seemed to be OK. But when I went to the Home screen, the first (faulty) one still displayed and gave the same error message. So I read instructions here about finding and removing that media server, rebooted the PC, and NOW, only see one media server – the new working one.

But the HOME page is still stuck on the OLD nonworking server and I can find no way to change that.

So clearly, something is still there with the OLD nonworking server and I can find no way to either locate that or remove it using Settings. Once I can do that, my guess is that Plex will rebuild the HOME screen and it will work, again.

Then you might have to perform the ‘Reset customization’ procedure on all plex clients:
