Common reasons for auto-update failing:
- The PMS install folder has been changed away from
C:\Program Files (x86)\Plex\Plex Media Server
DON’T do this. There is no reason to do it. Even if you have capacity issues on C:, I’m sure there is room for the 200 MB which are the PMS executables. There can be malfunctions if you move the install folder someplace else. - The Plex data folder has been relocated, but the registry path of the “Plex Updater service” has not been adapted. See the “Addendum” part of the HowTo article [HowTo] An extended guide on how to move the Plex data folder on Windows
- The Plex Updater Service is for some reason not running. Although its startup mode should be set to “automatically, delayed” by the installer, it might for some reason still be set to “automatically” on older installs. Try changing that in the Services control panel.
