Unable to update from 1.19.2.2737 PlexPass User

Server Version#: 1.19.2.2737
Player Version#: N/A
OS Version: Windows Server 2019 Standard

Issue: When attempting to update from 1.19.2.2737 to 1.19.5.3021 via the webGUI, it appears to work (PlexMS process closes, update process runs, then PlexMS process is restarted) but the version number stays at 1.19.2.2737. I’ve gone and downloaded the installer manually from the Downloads page, and I get the installer prompts this way, everything seems to run properly (bar moves, no errors displayed, Plex re-launches upon completion) however the version is still listed as 1.19.2.2737 installed, with updates available. I’ve attached the most recent Log files for reference.

It appears you have installed the Plex program files (I will refer to this as the ‘program folder’) onto the root folder of drive Z:

And you also have moved the Plex data folder onto the root folder of Z:

You must not do that.
Don’t mix the Plex program and the Plex data folders.

Keep the program folder of Plex server on drive C: (in the default location for 32 bit apps C:\Program Files (x86)\Plex\Plex Media Server)
It will only occupy ~140 MB on there. No personal identifiable info is stored in this folder.

For the Plex data folder, you should use a folder, not a “naked” drive letter.
e.g. Z:\plexdata
see [HowTo] An extended guide on how to move the Plex data folder on Windows

I actually DON’T have the data folder in Z:\ though…it is at the default location of “C:\Users<username>\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server” . So I’m not sure what is happening there now either. I know that’s the case as that is where I had to go to get the logs I’ve uploaded. I didn’t realize that installing Plex on a drive other than C:\ was inadvisable, I was just trying to dedicate storage to Plex and assorted other softwares (Tau, VNC, etc) when I built the new server machine for Plex, as the last one was getting…wonky with user shares randomly disappearing on their own. (long term Windows install as it was, now been nuked from orbit). Any suggestions on a path forward with the minimum of downtime? Can I move all the Plex related things I have in the naked drive to a new folder and change the Reg keys to reflect that? Do I need to start from scratch with a fresh install and then move the data folder around to save space on C?

I believe I’ve gotten it figured out now. Doing some more digging, I’m unable to move the DATA from C:\ to Z:\ as in the link provided…due to the file format of Z:. HOWEVER, thanks to this being virtualized machine, I was able to extend the C:\ drive to get around the storage limitation of the C:\ drive for the Data. Not my preferred method, but that solved that issue. I was also able to get all of the actual “Program Folder” items into a folder on the Z:\ drive and that allowed me to proceed with a manual download and install of version 1.19.5.3035 without losing any settings or anything. I’ll have to take a look at migrating the Data folder in the future, I’m sure, but that is a chore for another day. Thank you Otto for shedding light on the naked drive issue, as I’m sure that was the root cause of my problem in the first place.

I’ve been trying the past couple of days to update from 1.19.4.2935 to 1.19.5.3035 and it just fails…

Never had an issue updating before.
