I just updated to the latest beta plex release and now my libraries don’t show and give an error message. I had to roll back two versions to get them to work again. Very disappointing.
Did you capture server logs ?
The issue won’t be resolved unless we know what the problem was and this needs debug server logs
I’m sorry I did not capture the logs. Is it too late now that I have rolled back two versions? I could try to update again, but I do like how my Plex is working ATM. Next time I will try to get the logs. I do believe I still have a corrupted server or whatever it is called, because I had a notification about it once. I’m just glad Plex is working again for me with the rollback. I am heavily considering reinstalling windows and building my server back up from a brand new start.
It is possible that there is a database corruption, Corruptions would stop a database structure change and that would lead to the update failing to complete - but without logs this is just theory
You could go through the steps outlined in this article to see if there is a database corruption - Repair a Corrupted Database | Plex Support
I am pretty sure I have database corruption, but I’m not sure I am tech savvy enough to understand those instructions on repairing it. I might just rebuild my entire Plex server. I sent my logs directly to you via PM or DM, so let me know if you get a chance to check them out.
Use this batch file. All you need to do is to run it under the same Windows user account which runs your Plex server.
Thanks. I think I did that right. I ran that batch file. It was kind of quick.
I cannot find any Private Message in the forum from you
@beauchristopher found it
I have looked at the logs you sent me
There is no evidence of database corruption
I can see the following
There is evidence of both the 32-bit Plex Media Server build installed as well as the 64-bit build - possibly - please check through "Add or Remove Programs " and confirm
64-bit build 1.32.8.7639-fb6452ebf
32-bit build very old version 1.31.2.6810
Or were you switching from one to the other / installing and uninstalling ?
In the following period the 32-bit old version was running
Feb 14, 2024 19:58 until it crashed at Feb 14, 2024 20:03
This old version was released in March 2023
When did you update to the 64-bit version ? Did it not prompt you to say that there is a 32-bit build that needs to be uninstalled ?
If you export the Windows Application Event log and send me zip of the Event Viewer saved evtx file, I can establish when the installs happened
The logs also show that
Feb 14, 2024 22:27 - launch of the 64-bit build version of Plex Media Server 1.32.8.7639
Feb 14, 2024 22:28 - you shut down / exited the server whilst it was still starting up
Feb 14, 2024 22:28 - launching 64-bit version 1.32.8.7639 again
Feb 14, 2024 22:28 - you possibly restarted / shutdown windows or did an uninstall?
Feb 14, 2024 22:30 - launching the old 32-bit build PMS version 1.31.2.6810
Is it possible that both versions were running in parallel at some point ?
PS - please copy out the Logs\Installer Logs and zip and let me have a look together with the zip of the windows event viewer Application log export of all events / save as evtx file
i had the 64 bit version and when i did the latest update i kept getting an error that would not show my libraries, so i ended up installing an older version which i guess was not 64 bit. i guess because i uninstalled it i was somehow able to do this? idk. it did look like i had both versions somehow. i appreciate you pointing this out. i went ahead and completely deleted plex according to the directions for rebuilding a new server and everything seems fine now.
i will attach my new logs, but there is nothing wrong now. thankfully.
Plex Media Server Logs_2024-02-23_21-53-42.zip (4.2 MB)
i apologize that i already rebuilt my server, but if i run into that issue again i will try to get the installer logs. i am really pleased plex is working well now.
i want to thank you for taking the time to help me.
Whilst we have checks in the new 64-bit installer for the 32-bit version being in place when attempting to install the 64-bit version, we do not have the checks in the old 32-bit installer - so I think it was as you indicated - installing the 32-bit version after the 64-bit version was installed.
As it is working now, lets leave it and re-investigate if you have the issue of the libraries not showing up. But do bear in mind the database changes in new versions may lead to the server taking some minutes to update the database on launch and so the libraries would not show until that action is completed. On large databases, this may take some time
By the way the zip of the database sent was empty
