Unable to watch trailers

Server Version#: 1.32.1.6999-91e1e2e2c

Recently noticed I’m not able to watch trailers for movies in my collection.

I get “multiple playback error” on a Roku. When I’m on the server itself and try to view the trailer in a browser, I get the window like it’s going to play but it never starts. This just started happening within the last update or so.

Any suggestions on where to start looking? No hardware firewall, no system firewall (both currently disabled while I’m trying to figure this out).

Windows 64 bit

Try refreshing the metadata for that movie and see what happens. I think I had to refresh the metadata for a library once to clear out a similar issue.

Just tried that, no dice. It’s almost like it’s being blocked but nothing on the server has changed other than upgrading the version of plex server when updates are released.

Any suggestions? What should I be looking for and where? Are trailer requests logged?

Figured it out. My clock somehow got changed and the time/date was way off. It looks like it thought I made the request longer than whatever the timeout is for the video to be available. Fixed my time, fixed my access to trailers.

Close but no cigar.
A wrong date/time pretty much breaks all encrypted communication protocols, as they all slap a timestamp on the packets. If the time they contain is too far off from the actual time, the recipient of the packets is simply discarding them. This is done to thwart the simplest of attacks: “replay attacks” where an eavesdropper is replaying older packets which where recorded earlier.

Ok… But the issue was the time being off and the fix was correct… even if my explanation for why I thought it was failing was wrong. Thanks for clarifying the process.

The fix is correct though. If trailers are failing check your system clock. It’s one (of probably several) things that can cause this.
