Unavailable outside network - Again!

Server Version#: 1.18.7.2457
Player Version#:

So after my machine updated windows this morning, I have been unable to see my server outside of my network. I can see it on the home network, but videos are hella pixellated.

canyouseemenow.com does not see my forwarded port. I have ensured that the IP is correct. I have attempted to forward to multiple ports in the 20,000-50,000 range. It is current set to 32400.

Port forwarding is set up the way i’ve done for a good while now.

I did get a new modem/router from my provider recently, but it’s the same brand and i’ve set it up the same way.

You may want to double check the Plex Media Server rule in Windows Firewall to:

  1. Make sure it still exists, and
  2. Make sure it’s enabled, and
  3. Make sure it’s configured such that it allows connections from any remote IP address (Scope tab), and
  4. Make sure it’s configured to allow Edge traversal (Advanced tab).

There are other settings in there which could affect remote access too:

  • Protocols and Ports should be Any, All Ports, and All Ports.
  • Remote Computers should have nothing configured.

You could also try (temporarily) disabling Windows Firewall to see if it is indeed causing problems.

Okay, so in checking these things I found what’s causing the problem, but I haven’t figured out where/how to fix it yet.

I use AVG Internet Security. AVG manages windows firewall. When I turn off AVG so that I can check the windows firewall settings, It’s available out of my network. When it turn it back on, it no longer is.

I’m going to start trying to figure out what’s causing teh problem from AVG…but if you have ideas I’m willing to try them.

Thanks!

Unfortunately, I don’t have any idea how AVG’s enhanced firewall interact’s with Windows Firewall. I’ve seen some information online which suggests that you can uninstall just the enhanced firewall portion of AVG and that that would allow Windows Firewall to function independently again. But I’m not sure; as you suggest, it would probably be best to pursue this with AVG.

Yea, now that I know it’s an AVG issue I will. Thanks though, you helped me find the cause!
