Remote access error - Not available outside your network

I have been having trouble setting up remote access for my PMS hosted on my windows PC.

I have enabled port forwarding, setup static IP, allowed Plex on windows Firewall. I am not sure what else is missing from the settings. Would be grateful if someone could help me out with this!


I‘m a bit confused with regards to your port forward configuration … most routers require you to specify the external/public port (range) that’s supposed to be forwarded (and usually you don’t need 3 rules).

You can find some general pointers on how to further troubleshoot and pin down what’s causing this issue for you in this guide…

What is the make/model of your router?

It looks like you are forwarding the wrong ports.

SIP is port 5060 and DNS is port 53.

This is a guess, but you probably need to delete those three rules, then create a custom service/rule that forwards external port 32400.

Thanks for the reply.

The router i’m using is a Jio Fiber(India) provided device. In the port forwarding settings of the router, it does not list only TCP protocol. And trying different things I’ve added all the listed TCP rules just to see if it may work.

So, I’ve added a custom rule (Plex) in the firewall rules configuration which basically allows TCP connections destined to my private IP.

Defining a custom service for Plex is the correct process.

Delete the other three rules. They are not needed and, if enabled, may conflict with Plex remote access (you still have the DNS rule enabled).

After deleting the other rules, reboot or power cycle the router.

After the router is completely back online, reboot the Plex Server.

Then try to enable Plex remote access.

If it does not work, run through the troubleshooting document @tom80H linked above.

It’s been a while and I’ve been trying to figure out the problem with no success. Would really appreciate if any pointers can be given.

I’ve tried everything from the the-basics-of-remote-access-troubleshooting guide and nothing works so far.

I have created a custom rule in the firewall settings and assigned it in the port forwarding rules:


I have created inbound rules in the windows firewall settings for port 32400.

Nothing has worked so far and I am at a loss. If anyone can point me to some outlying issues, please do!

Hello! I’m having the same issue on my end with remote access not connecting I’m using Xfinity and there modem I do have port forwarding turned on but for some reason its still saying not available outside your network

Did you already have a chance to look into the remote access troubleshooting guide? Any findings from those steps you can share?

Hello Thanks for the reply I have tried this but sadly nothing worked also been trying to watch a long list of YouTube videos but a lot of them are outdated

The troubleshooting isn’t so much a yes/no thing… the individual findings matter and will at least give a good indication on what’s blocking remote access for you.

This way you can either follow up (e.g. contact your ISP if it turns out they restrict your setup… it usually helps asking them precise questions to avoid being sent in circles). If you cannot place the findings, feel free to share so others can offer some more guidance.

what i have found is my internet is on a cgnat by my isp the way i got it to connect is to run it through a vpn (private vpn) while also using port forwarding. it now connects!!

the problem im facing now on my tv on a separate network is saying dose not have direct assess to my server and has the quality limited to 1 mbp so i am wondering how do i get my quality up while using a vpn to stream through or is there a better way to go around the cgnat?

I cannot comment on the VPN… those tend to be a can of worms. You could ask your ISP for an exception / to get a publicly routable IPv4 address (doesn’t need to be a static ip address). Some ISPs will offer such an option… some for a price… and some only by buying a static ip address option (which is usually more expensive).
