I just started to add the original doctor who to my server and noticed that plex started to combine the original doctor who with the doctor who (2005). How do I separate the two tv series so I have doctor who and doctor who (2005) and my meta data to show correctly?
That’ll depend on how your files are organized.
If both shows have their own top-level folders in your library folder, you should be able to select Split Apart from the context menu of the show level.
Generally it might be worth to review your file naming / folder organization to avoid Plex from accidentally merging your shows. This will also help avoiding manual fixing if you ever have to rebuild your libraries.
Working example
TV Shows <- the folder linked to your tv-show library
Doctor Who (1963)
Season 01
Doctor Who (1963) - s01e01 - An unearthly child.ext
...
Doctor Who (2005)
Season 01
Doctor Who (2005) - s01e01 - Rose.ext
Where .ext is a placeholder for your file extensions.
Adding the release year of the original show isn’t strictly required but can help Plex getting better matching results.
Fixed it. I was having issues finding the split apart feature, but it looks like it is on the overall show and not in the television season like I was thinking.
I purchased filebot a long time ago and it helps to ensure that I keep my formatting clean throughout everything. Below is actually how I had the library. I added the 1963 after plex combined the files together too see if it would help.
