"Unexpected Error" when using OpenSubtitles

Server Version#: 1.27.2.5929
Player Version#: Plex for Samsung 5.41.2

I’ve been encountering a consistent and annoying bug where I get an “unexpected error” whenever I leave Settings after downloading subtitles from OpenSubtitles.

Description/How to reproduce:

  1. Launch Plex app on Samsung TV
  2. Select some kind of media in the library
  3. Go into More > Select Subtitle Track > Search for More…
  4. Download subtitles from OpenSubtitles
  5. Play media
  6. Pause playback and go into Settings (three dots)
  7. You are now unable to adjust Subtitle Offset in the Subtitles submenu, because the OS subtitles are now bugged and the Offset option is not there anymore
  8. Leave the settings menu, error message appears: “Something went wrong, please try again”
  9. During playback, go into the Select Subtitle Track menu, notice the OpenSubtitles track is now deselected, even though the OS subtitles are still being displayed during playback
  10. Going into Settings and then leaving now always gives the “unexpected error” message
  11. Subtitle Offset option is still missing in the Settings
  12. Selecting a non-OpenSubtitles track in the Subtitle Track Select menu causes the downloaded OpenSubtitles track to disappear

Basically, the first time you download a new subtitle track from OpenSubtitles, it bugs and doesn’t really save or activate properly (entering the subtitle select menu afterwards shows the OS track unticked). You don’t really notice it until you enter settings where the Subtitle Offset option is missing and you keep getting the “unexpected error” message whenever you exit settings.

The workaround is fairly simple. Going into the Select Subtitle Track menu and re-ticking the OpenSubtitles track fixes the problem and allows you to then change subtitle offset and the error message stops appearing.

It’s not a huge issue but it basically means that every time I download OS subtitles and then realize I need to adjust their offset, I need to enter settings > leave > get an error message > go into subtitle track select > re-tick OS track > go into settings > adjust offset

This has been happening consistently for months now, through many Plex Media Server updates and possibly several Samsung app versions (I’m not really sure since it just auto-updates).

Nice bug report. Being reproducible might get some traction with the devs as those are popular TVs. They will probably benefit from debugging enabled, a restart, demonstrating the problem, and sharing the results (logs).

I have an LG though.

No devs replied, so I had assumed nobody noticed my report, but it looks like this bug has been fixed recently. So I just wanted to say: thanks!
