Universal Continue Watching (experimental feature)

It does look a lot cleaner on desktop or mobile devices but I feel like on a TV it looks very bland especially with the Apple TV preview while hovering over the Plex app. Hopefully an option for both looks is possible.

Good start on merge of CW/OD. It is an OPTION!

Now PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE fix the multiple rows of “Recently Added” hubs!!! GIVE US THE OPTION to choose ONE row for TV and ONE for Movies, and let people who want to scroll endlessly through their RA hubs select it for themselves also.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE fix the multiple rows of “Recently Added” hubs!!!

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE fix the multiple rows of “Recently Added” hubs!!!

Thanks.

Can anyone explain how to enable this in the Android TV app interface? I’m running the latest beta version and don’t see it. I’ve signed out of, and back into, Plex, thinking it might just appear (as it did on my Roku), but no such luck. Thanks!

I am having this same issue. Updated latest beta version app, and plex server version is just under a month old version.

You might also have to enable experimental features under your account via web app. After that restart the server, then switch to “manage home automatically”.

I have done both. It works on other apps, but not Android TV (in my case, Shield TV).

I did enable experimental features and reset my home customization after enabling.

The announcement says this works in the hosted web app, implying it does not work in the local web app, but I find it works in both hosted and local (Windows server, latest beta version).

For now I’ve had to disable the experimental feature due to this problem as the ON/CW is kinda broke using the web client. When this is resolved let us know please.

The continue watching row keeps disappearing for me on roku

Good catch. Web is currently using the default size of 6. We’re going to increase this value in an upcoming server release.

Not sure I like this, but I will leave it enabled for a few weeks to see if it’s just a case of adjusting to a new change.

I really don’t watch multiple movies at once but use on deck all the time. At first i was a bit put out that it had retained so few items in continue watching but I see from above this is a bug.

Dunno how, given the code for it wasn’t even committed until 8.14 :stuck_out_tongue: Please mind the snarky comments

Hmm. Nah I don’t like this. Looks boring now and fewer items show up. I prefer the background artwork in a rectangular box too.

I’m not suggesting you’re not having issues, but I’m saying it’s impossible to have a feature that code hadn’t been written for yet :man_shrugging:

Global Continue Watching is also only available for automatically managed home screens, not manual

If you compare against web, those items appear in On Deck anyway, all that isn’t that image is the Continue Watching hub. The new combined hub is labelled Continue Watching. So you’re not seeing the combined hub there, which would also include any in progress movies, if there were any.

If you’re seeing a bug there, that’s not directly related to this experimental feature (aside from both being related to the home page). Can you please open a new thread for that, so we can keep this on topic, please? :plexheart:

If Continue Watching is not appearing on a manually manged home, it’s worth looking into. That’s not intentional

Please do not roll this feature into the Manually Managed Area.

The Continue Watching row was always unified. It displayed content you were int he middle of watching across all library sections. If there is a desire to unify rows, please return to the unified Recently Added rows instead of giving us a separate recently added row for each TV section or each Movie section.

The Wallpaper/Fanart for Continue Watching is superior to the Plex UI just relying on posters. That banner of fan art looks way better than just another row of posters.

Both automatic and manual homscreen management is broken as discussed here: Manage Home Screen Automatic & Manual. I’d still love an official explanation why under the manual management screen we have options for Recently Added Music, Photos, Videos, Movies, and Games for my TELEVISION library (Apple TV, most recent beta).

Since Plex continues to adopt this client side customization this (once rolled out) will add more issues for Plex users with less tech savvy family members who will then have to babysit multiple player apps to ensure content is displayed properly.

It’s nice that Plex wants to push it’s streaming service and cater to people sharing multiple servers but there needs to be some consideration to the confusion and headaches this is causing.

This really just feels like another unification/design change prompted by the streaming business.

I actually want this feature rolled into manually managed home pages. I like the combined for On Deck and Continue Watching. Less clutter on the home page.

Problem is, to use it, I have to automatically manage the home page to use it, which gives me the ugly multiple Recently Added Hubs. I can manually manage the home page on a Roku, or the Plex Web app and the extra recently added hubs are combined. Doesn’t work on Android, but that’s another story.

Again, I fail to see the logic of combining hubs to reduce the clutter in one place, and adding unnecessary, unwanted hubs in another. The two concepts really contradict each other.
