Hello,
I would like to know if you can give the option to the users on if they want to merge the CW and OD section.
This will let users that like the update continue with the new feature and the users that dont like it, to use the old way.
Thanks

Does anyone actually think replacing thumbnails with vertical posters is a good idea? Iâm not even talking about merging CW with On Deck, just from a visual standpoint it looks so much worse now. Whatâs the reason for it, aside from more densely populating the screen? There surely should be at least an option to switch between posters and thumbnails.
I do
Landscape posters use up to much real estate so merging cw with od is a good thing for me.
Well, that was obviously a rhetorical question, thatâs a good reason to do it if youâre in the middle of watching 17 different things (which, I have to admit, I sometimes do as well
).
But then why have a background picker at all, they already replaced dimmed backgrounds with a gradient in their iOS app a while ago, now this. Some people have custom backgrounds for their library, some people just think it looks cooler and makes their home screens more visually interesting and differentiated. I remember thinking it was a very nice touch to have backgrounds in addition to regular posters when I started using Plex, never imagined people would want to get rid of them.
We havenât forgotten about artwork, donât worry.

@cassiusclyde I think it was hinted in some older threads (and see above from @DaveBinM as well) that continue watching titles will likely use artwork while on deck titles will use posters - or something along those lines. This could also be me, and a few others, reading into it because thatâs what weâd like for ourselves.
For me, the OD\CW merge is an improvement because I rarely have any CW titles and never more than one or two and that dynamically displayed extra top row with lots of empty space bugged me on the occasional times it would be present.
It also seems like if I had more folks in home watching Plex Iâd be better served to embrace the âhome userâ setup - a la Netflix profiles - which would address some of the issues with the OD\CW merge as well as the impact of the current 12 item limit.
Future features often build on previous improvements and if we donât adopt the improvements as they happen (for various reasons) those future features can feel like a big change when they become current features. It might have helped if some of the communications called out that evolution more specifically instead of appearing to assume everyone using the product was keeping up with it as dedicatedly as the people who work on the product. For example Iâve seen folks adjust their use case after learning there are genre filtering features they werenât aware of to manage their genre based libraries which resolves the multiple recently added rows annoyance for them.
Though truth be told people who donât have a problem donât come to forums to express their lack of problems and we humans (particularly us admin types) donât adjust to change well so forums always feel weighted towards âeveryone hates this changeâ anyways. Wait two weeks and see if the ire is still up.
As several folks here have noted, weâve started rolling out the âuniversalâ continue watching functionality in our apps. As such, weâre also going to close this forum topic, since the experiment has ended. We really appreciate all the feedback thatâs been provided here. Itâs been very helpful! Our team is paying attention and weâre taking a lot of the feedback into account as we move forward.
Now, obviously weâre never going to make 100% of people happy 100% of the time, but we wanted to provide some information on some of the common points made recently:
We donât have any immediate plans to switch the items in the row back to using the âlandscapeâ aspect fanart/background images. However, that doesnât mean that we arenât interested in some of the benefits that existed with those. We have an upcoming experimental feature that will more prominently feature fanart for your movies and shows and definitely rewards those of you who put time in and carefully curate background images.
Weâre already working on the ability for server owners to specify that âRecently Addedâ rows can be merged together again when displayed on the home screen. That will be available soon in an upcoming update.
While we initially increased the default count (for contributing to the row) in the media server from 6 to 20 based on this feedback, we will also be adjusting things so that some of the existing Continue Watching/On Deck-related settings in Plex Media Server can influence this. That should make this more configurable for folks.
Weâre still looking into how the underlying desire here might be best addressed, but we donât have anything specific to share right now.
