I posted this a few days go in the general Windows PMS forum, but no one had any thoughts. I figured I would try in the Plex Pass forum - since I’m using a Plex Pass version of PMS.
I’m running Plex Media Server on a Windows 2012 R2 Server, and I’ve noticed something strange happening. I had one “admin” account, and everyone else who accesses has a streaming only account (With no sync access.) What I’ve noticed in the last few days is that Plex is saving optimized versions to my NAS in the same folders.
I’ll have, for example, a folder for movies A-M and in that folder there will be a sub folder for “Plex Versions.” I didn’t create that folder, don’t want that folder, and would like to know if there’s a way to stop this? I built a server powerful enough to transcode on the fly to avoid having to create optimized versions - which could take up a fair amount of space if I wasn’t deleting them. My understanding, and I did some testing with a dummy account, is that no one should be able to do this … so I’m not sure why plex would create them.
This is a new problem, the only setting I’ve changed recently is the setting for a maximum streaming rate for remote videos. I’m running version 1.2.2.2857 on 64 bit windows server.
Has anyone else seen this?
