I am sorry If this has been asked but I used the search and did not find the answer I was looking for. I have a multidisc DVD and I have it in its own folder. Each part is named the same followed by disc 1, disc 2 etc. It shows up as one listing in the movie section but all 4 parts are stacked. I want to unstack the 4 parts where it still shows as 1 listing in the movie section but when I click on the movie it shows the 4 discs so I can choose which disc I want to watch. Is this possible?
Is this what you’re looking for? https://support.plex.tv/articles/200264966-naming-multi-file-movies/
I have been through that. Lets use WWE Owen Hart: Hart of Gold as an example. It contains 3 discs. If I name them following the link you provided, it stacks the movie so I see it listed one time in the movie section and when I click on it, it shows one long movie. I want to be able to have it listed one time in the movie section and when I click on it, it shows the 4 separate discs so I can choose which disc to watch.
Plex doesn’t work that way. Sorry
If you are willing to do a little work you might be able to achieve something like you want in a couple of ways
As a TV series:
Add each disc as an episode to a TV series. File structure something like this:
WWE Owen Hart: Hart of Gold << Folder name
… Season 01 << Folder for the episodes
… \ … WWE Owen Hart: Hart of Gold S01E01.mp4
… \ … WWE Owen Hart: Hart of Gold S01E02.mp4
… \ … WWE Owen Hart: Hart of Gold S01E03.mp4
Plex will try to match it, and obviously fail, but use Fix Match or Unmatch , and select Personal Media Shows as the agent. You can then edit the information however you want.
As a movie COLLECTION:
add the files named something similar to this:
… WWE Owen Hart: Hart of Gold Disc One,
… WWE Owen Hart: Hart of Gold Disc Two:
… WWE Owen Hart: Hart of Gold Disc Three
Again, Plex is probably going to fail trying to match them, but fix the match using the Personal Media agent. You can then edit the title and other info as you see fit. Make sure you add the the same name to the “Collection” tag for all three discs. You can configure the way that Plex shows collections, some more info can be found here:
I’m sure someone will tell you that it’s not a good idea to do it either way. I have used both methods (for music videos and home videos as an example) and so far, it’s always worked. But as I mentioned, it is a bit more work and definitely nothing automatic about the process.
Thank you. I will play around with it and see what I can do but you have given me a starting point.
