I have a few movies that take 2 disks and I when I put them on my Plex it shows up as 2 movies instead of one. Is there a way to make them appear as 1 title?
Thanks
Are you using proper naming convention for multi-files movies?
First - if you don’t name and structure your media in accordance with the guidelines - you’re going nowhere at warp speed:
https://support.plex.tv/articles/categories/media-preparation/
Once you have that under control…
https://support.plex.tv/articles/200264966-naming-multi-file-movies/
Quoted from that page:
/Movies
/The Dark Knight (2008)
The Dark Knight (2008) - pt1.mp4
The Dark Knight (2008) - pt2.mp4
That should produce a single item sporting a ‘Blue 2’ in the upper left hand corner of the poster. You can ‘Split’ the item back into two separate movies if you wish via the ‘Dots’ from the movies ‘pre-play’ screen in Plexweb.
What’s interesting (and real knee-slapper) is that page’s example uses mp4 files. If you use mp4 files and have not moved the default location of Local Media Assets, mp4 files simply won’t work. Plex either doesn’t know how Local Media Assets works, or doesn’t know how to write an instructional guideline, or assumes everyone that uses mp4 files has no embedded metadata in the title field - which is just about the most hilarious thing I’ve ever heard in my life (the aforementioned ‘knee-slapper’).
Anyway…
Regarding MP4/M4V files with embedded metadata (like 99.999954599843% of MP4/M4V files in The Plexiverse Today)… Plex will read this info and prefer it over a perfect file name/structure, borking your match and stopping your efforts to stack anything, but you can combat that situation by moving Local Media Assets to the bottom of every agent list you can find. All tabs in TV Shows and Movies here:
https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200241558-Agents
Just drag LMA to the bottom of the list and drop it. If you do have embedded metadata this will cure the issue, if you don’t it won’t matter. LMA will do what it has to from the bottom.
Renaming/restructuring is best performed OUTSIDE the library and you may need to write a new bundle for the show or movie so The Plex Dance® was invented:
The Plex Dance®:
- remove show/movie from library
- rescan library files
- empty trash
- clean bundles
https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200392106-Library-Actions <— scan library files, empty trash, clean bundles - bring names and structures into compliance/Move LMA/etc
- replace corrected show/movie into library
- rescan library files
All Steps. In Order. No Shortcuts.
Thanks. I will give that a try.
