Unused Content Ratings

Server Version#: 1.15.6.1079-78232c603

I’m having a problem that I’ve seen in previous posts that were without a solution. Over many months I’ve been experiencing an issue where I add a movie to plex with a ‘Content Rating’ that I do not utilize in my library…so I change the metadata accordingly. However, the unused Content Rating remains in my listing (without associated movies). Right now these include:
12+ (been with me for a couple of months)
FSK 18 (been with since last summer)

How do I make these unused Content Ratings go away? And no, Optimizing does not help.

Can you provide a screen shot of where you see these? Once you remove the last one, it should get removed from the database. At least that’s what I see.

@grandpacarp I have run into this in the past. Do you use collections? If you do, it could be the same issue I have seen.

Often times a collection is assigned its own individual content rating. Even if you change the content rating of the movies inside, the collection isn’t updated since that information is part of the collection data.

Here you go:

@marcjt I am using collections extensively. I’ll explore this possibility and get back to you on it.

@marcjt THANKS!!! found two issues. First regarding the rating of 12+. Although Plex said there were none in the ‘Content Rating’ area; when I switched my library view to a list and then sorted by content rating, I found two.

Second appears to be a logic bug. I found a Collection that had the ‘FSK 18’ Rating. I’ll go out on a limb and bet that I added one of the movies to the collection first and then updated/corrected the rating, but the collection rating never updated/corrected. Worse yet, the collection rating is used when reporting the ratings you have in your library, but isn’t included when selecting a content rating to display.

1 - We recently found a bug with having a + sign at the end of the rating.

2 - Collections have their own rating. Changing the rating of an item in the collection does not change the collection itself.

@anon18523487 Just to drop my 2-cents on use of Collection Ratings. If you’re going to utilize ‘Collection ratings’ when compiling the ‘Content Rating’ sub-menu, then it should also be used for both Updates; AND… matched collection ratings should display alongside movies when a rating is selected. The current Half-Way measure can create confusion/issues on this end.

My personal recommendation would be to drop collection ratings as a source for Content Rating - stick with individual movie ratings.
