Server Version#: 1.19.3.2793-36efde971
Player Version#:
I just clicked on the tools menu and “check for updates” and installed the latest version of the Plex server. After the install had completed I gave it a few minutes and re-booted the machine. Now at startup, I’ll see the Plex icon in the lower right tool tray for a minute, then it disappears and the server doesn’t start.
Please don’t tell me I’m looking at a complete re-install of Plex and re-creating all the meta data for my libraries.
I’m running Windows 7 Professional, Service Pack 1. This machine is a dedicated Plex server. Nothing else is running on it.
Cardeal, three days and not a peep out of anyone from Plex…
I’m wondering if I can use the information from moving a server to move my library, delete the server, do a fresh install and then point it to the backup of the library.
But it would be nice if I heard from someone at Plex to let me know if there is an easier way before I waste hours on this…
Jimmcgee, I already tried this too, without success. The only thing tha worked for me was install an old version(Plex-Media-Server-1.8.4.4249-3497d6779), but this verson has a problem with the DVR option, so if you try to use the DVR the server will also crash.
The good part is with this old version I can at least watch my movies and series.
Cardeal, I downloaded the previous version and ran the install.
It gives me the attached error message, which of course is cut off and the window doesn’t scroll (I tried several different resolutions, and a search of the exe and installed server directory to see if I could pull the text.
When you installed the previous version did you just delete the executable? I’m afraid if I do an uninstall it will delete my libraries and meta data.
Jim, I had to uninstall my plex before install the old one. I didn’t lost my metadata, so I belive that you’ll not lose yours too, but I’m not a techinical guy so I only wish you lucky =//
THE UNINSTALL LEAVES YOUR LIBRARIES AND META DATA IN PLACE.
I downloaded and installed the version in Cardeals post (1.8.4.4249). That installed, brought up my libraries and was able to play over my network – it was NOT compatible with the Roku app – it gives me an error message that I need version 1.10 or higher.
So I went back to the plex site and downloaded version 1.19.3.2831-181d9145d and installed it (the latest version). It immediately crashed after install and still crashes after several reboots and running the “repair” option it still crashes.
Is there somewhere I can download ver 1.18.6.2368 Plex Server for Windows? Reading through the forum it sounds like that was the last stable version.
I never did hear back from anyone at Plex, but reading through the forums I was able to find a link to download version 1.18.5.2309 which seems to be a stable version (I found reports of crashes with 1.18.6.2368 as well).
I downloaded this version and it installed, found all my media and plays both across the network to my PC and to my Roku players.
Just became aware of this thread. I’m not able to reproduce this issue.
Someone mentioned that they had to reboot their computer after the update. PMS normally does not require a reboot, however the included Microsoft Visual C++ Redistribution might. Check and see what was installed. It should be the “2015-2019” version 14.24.28127.
My C++ version is slightly different 14.24.28127.4
I did a re-boot after the initial upgrade had completed and every time I tried to run 1.19.3.2793-36efde971 it crashed. I also tried downloading the latest version, running the “repair” option and re-booting. Still crashed. The only thing that has worked was stepping back to version 1.18.5.2309 as mentioned above.
The machine has been a dedicated Plex server since new; there’s not much else loaded on it.
It’s running Windows 7 Professional, Service Pack 1
Intel i5 2.90 GHz processor
12 GB RAM
C:\ 400 GB HD with 375 GB free
The media files are on four 4.0 TB drives. Two of those are USB 3.0 drives connected directly to the server, the other two are WD MyCloud drives on the network.
