Update Greyed Out

Server Version#: 1.9.7.4460
Player Version#:3.26.2
Hi. Unable to update my plex server as it is greyed out.

Have tried downloading the latest version as listed in other old topics, signing out of all and then via web first, but it does not see my server/library.

Is running on windows server 2012. V6.2

Can anyone shed light on why this is happening and how to resolve please?

This version had a bug in the update code, so you must upgrade manually:

  1. Stop Plex Server using its tray icon.
  2. uninstall Plex Server with the regular ‘Apps’ control panel of Windows. Do not use 3rd party ‘uninstaller’ software like Revo etc. Do not use Registry cleaners/optimizers.
  3. download the installation .exe of the newest PMS version from the download link below
  4. reboot Windows (just a safety measure, it may work without rebooting as well)

Not sure what you did here.
You might have to perform this procedure, to make sure that both your server and your web client are signed into the same plex account. Because only then you will have access to those libraries.

You might have to use a web browser on a different machine. The Internet Explorer on Windows ‘server editions’ is severely ‘locked down’, which makes it difficult to get the web app working correctly.

Thanks for your reply, below are my comments based on the attempt to follow processes listed.

Uninstalled old version, restarted server. Installed new version from website, oddly only called plex media player?? Opened localhost/web link to plex with no response. Then went to app.plex.tv/desktop and logged in on both server and seperate device, neither using IE. Launched plex media player and logged in, still cannot see server at all.

Just shows server unavailable :frowning:

You did not download the right software.

That’s the link i followed, seems to be called player for some reason but can see it is server going by the version number 1.14.1.5488-cc260c476

Where are you seeing this text ‘Player’?

When i run and open on my server. Even i programs and features i believe but dont quote me!. I am re-installing now, so will let you know. Do i need to run the web link before running the application? Something i read on forums for people who cant access their server

What do you mean with “web link”?

app.plex.tv/desktop or the localhost/32400 links

Please do perform this procedure:

Complete! Thank you. Clearing the below worked, and yes looks like i did have media player but was downloaded from the same place. Maybe as i hadnt removed the old version. I didn’t remove as i was just to scared to loss my large library and played/unplayed metadata

Uninstalling Plex server from Windows is very safe (as long as you don’t use 3rd party ‘uninstallers’ and ‘registry optimizers’).

I am updating only this way, because I am running PMS as a Windows system service and the auto-updater doesn’t work in this case.
