Why would you have a piece of software that doesn’t add new episodes when they are added and not delete episodes that are deleted from the Plex Server itself?
Seriously? My 10 year old would have realized that this is pretty much the first thing to figure out.
Most people who view downloaded content from their Plex server want to be able to make sure that their mobile device syncs with their Plex server.
In simpler form watched episode 1, 2 and 3 and deleted them from server iPad syncs and removes them from iPad. Added a new episode that came out, say episode 10 and episode 10 gets added to iPad.
You are telling me that of all the employees you have no one figured this out?
I’m downloading off of a Plex Server using Unraid. Did you change the DNS for the server or the client? Cause I’m trying to download to my Android 10 phone.
However since my post I noticed a comment that the issues are with only with transcoded downloads.
The files I downloaded were all older small SD quality files in original quality. I since tried a movie with transcoding to a lower quality and as others have mentioned the transcode works but the download never happens.
I’m done with it.
Even with the full quality download it takes around 6-7 times as long to download in Plex as it does for the same files in Infuse on my iPhone.
So anyway I’m not saying that changing DNS won’t work for you and may be worth trying, but for me it was a wasted effort.
Tested it as well, same results. Didn’t do anything to impact the speed of downloading. And I’m getting similar results as you as far as speed. And I’m not transcoding.
Yeah for me it’s no longer worth the effort.
If I can do it so reliably in Infuse knowing that I can add a 20GB season pack of a show 30 minutes before leaving work and knowing the files will be there then I’m not too interested in waiting for a fix.
thanks for the input. yes, i’m aware of the setting and also have continuing experience with it not being respected.
the Downloads feature should have been nurtured longer in the beta channel before it was released with these show-stopper issues and a hard deadline set for removing the feature it is replacing.
truthfully, i’m excited about the Downloads feature. i’m just stuck with a timeline that could kill my use of Plex during a time when i want it most - months out in the boondocks with little access to the internet for streaming or other content.
It should if you’ve set up a Download based on a show/season/playlist. These are basically rules and Plex will follow the rule.
In simpler form watched episode 1, 2 and 3 and deleted them from server iPad syncs and removes them from iPad. Added a new episode that came out, say episode 10 and episode 10 gets added to iPad.
Yes, this should work. You’re going to have to provide specific details when this isn’t working for you. In your example, lets say you chose to download the entire season (episodes 1-9 so far) and set it to delete watched episodes after 1 day. You watch episodes 1-3. When you turn on the app the next day, episodes 1-3 will get removed. You watch episode 4 then go back to your server and add episode 10. You go back to the app, episode 10 will download. The next day, episode 4 gets removed.
Oh! Somehow I did not know that you can invite by username, sorry! For the record, the show I was trying to download on macOS and iOS with vastly different results was Rec (by trying to download the playlist Rec Watch Order). Though the effect can be observed on any show I tried recently, really. One thing I started to suspect is IPv6 – while both devices are on the same network as I mentioned above, I noticed that iOS (slow download) prefers my IPv6 address while my laptop (fast download) tends to avoid connection via IPv6 and prefers the IPv4 address, at least according to https://ipv6-test.com.. The Plex server itself should have both IPv4 and IPv6 connections configured (correctly, I think).
I was trying to download a smart playlist which (currently) has ~6 episodes. However, when I hit download, it said “The item has been already downloaded” while the Download session is not showing any progress except its name. When I pull down trying to refresh, It said “initializing downloads” in the notification but not downloading anything.
The filters I use are: 1) show collection is XXX; 2) Episodes unplayed is true.
I’m trying that now, I’ve made myself a Beta tester in Google play, it took quite a few minutes but it is saying I’m a tester. Its saying the app is up to date but on the app details in the plex app the version number doesn’t match the one at the top of your post its still the old one. As such my downloads are still incredibly slow…hours per episode instead of minutes. Any help?
It may take a while for the appstore on your phone to show the new version. Try accessing the Play Store from a web browser and push the beta to your phone.
It shows on Google play that I’m on Beta and shows an update on 13th Dec but when you open Plex it doesn’t show the beta version number and the downloads still aren’t fixed.
I’ve deleted the app and reinstalled it from Google play with it saying I’m definitely getting the Beta version and it’s still not showing the right version number when installed.
I have been trying to make the download to work but no luck. I have Plex Media Server installed on my TS-251+ (works perfectly for years and is up to date). I have the latest Plex client on android and it works well too.
The only problem is when I try to download a tv show for example, the only error I have seen in the logs is the following (maybe this is not the reason!) :
ERROR - [TranscodeOutputStream] Session appears to have died from under us
