Update on Rasplex 0.6.X?

Oh god i hope not. At this point they need to get something released so we can start using it and reporting bugs.

I seriously doubt this will cause much of a delay even IF they port it in.  I've watched the Github commits for a couple of weeks now.  Although in frequent, they seem relatively straightforward for updating the OE5.x versions in the Rasplex source code.  If memory serves, it's been @Kwiboo pushing those updates.

@Dale.Hamel also pushed some commits to the rasbot repo which controls the updater just a few days ago.  Looks like he resolved issues for update detection of rpi v rpi2.

I would love nothing more than to have my hands on a copy of 0.6.x, but as it stands now it looks like a lot of final touches are being completed.  So I think soon.

Cheers for the update, Derek

will PHT 1.3.7 be integrated to the new release ?

it would be SO awesome, cause it resolves the resume-while-transcoding issue so far as i know :)

God i hope not. It's time to get 0.6.0 out the door and fix the bigger problems that exist from not being on OpenELEC 5. If the devs continue to try to get the latest releases of OpenELEC and PHT into Rasplex before releasing, we'll never see a release as those teams have released on a much quicker cadence than Rasplex.

If the delay to Raplex 6 has been lack of testing resources i suggest they open up the betas to the community. If it's a development constraint (which i think it is), then i would suggest they put the latest code in github, update the Rasplex master branch and let others compile and submit patches. Time to crowdsource to keep Rasplex moving forward. If not, once Windows 10 for IoT hits the scene and Plex for Windows becomes a universal app, i think we'll see lots of people jumping off the Rasplex bandwagon (especially since Plex for Windows should support HD audio formats).

Quick explanation of the delays:

At present the beta group is sufficient for all testing, but the project is currently limited to two active coders, only one of which has full control over the release process.

And he has been too busy in 'real-life' work to dedicate much time to RasPlex recently.

A release candidate is currently under test, and the stated goal of the group has been that this should be released ASAP.

The plan is to save any further major changes for later releases than the upcoming one, though it may need a few minor 'tweaks'.

We still can't post a specific release date, though we hope that this weekend should see some more progress.

Best regards: dlanor

If the Dev team try to keep up with the latest PHT and OE then a Rasplex release will never come out.

Just updating to OE5 will fix a huge amount of issues including media/codex support so hopefully it wont need to transcode. I know it should fix my ogg codec issue.

Keep checking, keep getting disappointed. Oh well. Eventually.

You are an ungrateful group of people, this is free software and not an official client, just be patient. I have been using Rasplex for 3 years without any issues, playing movies TV shows, music and viewing photos, yes there are some bugs, but all are acceptable and do not affect general use.

Before you start the flaming, yes I get DD and DTS 5.1 sound through my A/V receivers (I have 3 instances of Rasplex running in different rooms), yes CEC works without any problems as I bothered to do some research rather than whinge in this forum, no I do not get crashes as I use recommended hardware that people know works.

If you're not happy with the release cycle then use something else as a Plex client (incidentally Plex for iOS has not had a significant release for seven months and that client is full of bugs which render it completely unusable as a day to day client, and that's an official client).

You are an ungrateful group of people

Here here.

Well said.

Been meaning to say something similar myself the last few days coz I'm fed up of getting emails about replys to this topic and its just people moaning all the time !

Rasplex has come a long long way since the beginning and the developers do a awesome job, especially when you consider this is their 2nd job and they give it away for free.

Every1 needs to look up the word patients in the dictionary and calm their ass's down.

It will be ready when its ready and it will have what its got.

P.S… Please hurry up with the new release

Everyone, you can donate to the developers to encourage their continued efforts.  I gave money for some beer...

As a fellow developer on XDA, I can tell you it's quite motivational when you get a few free drinks for your hard work.

Some constructive criticism is good.  But, hearing a bunch of whining for a new build without incentive is a mood killer.

You can donate by clicking the buttons at the bottom of their website, http://www.rasplex.com/.

Who said we didn't donate?

Who said we didn't donate?

Statistically, very few people donate to projects.  Still fewer of those who complain donate to projects.

Some of us who complain (yes, I complained about misleading information a bit) do donate.  But, it's only a very small group that donates.

Therefore, I'm encouraging others to do so if they want the developers to be motivated (incentivized) and they have not done so to date.

Thanks for the reminder, just donated. I've been using Rasplex for several months in 2 rooms of my house and love it. Keep up the great work, developers!

Yes. I’m off to donate too. I use RasPlex at various locations across New Zealand. Friends and family all connect to my Plex Media Server. Its user friendly and works well. CEC with LG TV’s is my only issue I come across, everything else works a treat. It really is a great client. I hope everyone here does the same and donates.

I check this page at least once a day hoping for a new release.  That being said, the 4 rasplex clients (pi 2) I have in my house all work better than anything else I've tried.

I have no complaints and appreciate the Rasplex Dev Team for all they've done.

Keep up the good work guys!

Enjoy a few rounds of beers on me!  I'll also donate the same amount once you release .6x and I encourage everyone that has replied to or will reply to this thread to do the same!

Thanks Again!

I got tired of waiting for Rasplex to have working fast forward and rewind and all the other known issues that it has in 0.5.1. I have switched to using the latest version of OpenELEC with PleXBMC and the Amber skin. It takes more work to setup but I actually prefer the end result to Rasplex and everything I need works fast and perfectly.

You came all the way here just to complain that people working on a free project in their spare time didn't release something fast enough?
