I received an email from PLEX telling me to manually update software but there is NOWHERE that tells you how to do this. Support on PLEX is horrible
If you log into Plex Web, is there not an orange banner across the top with a link?
Alternatively, if you go into Settings > Server, it tells you right at the top that there’s a new version, with a link to download it.
I received the same email, you only need to click on downloads page.
"Hello,
Based on our records, you are running the version 1.4.2, Plex Pass preview release of Plex Media Server on a macOS or OS X computer. An issue was recently discovered in the Plex Media Server auto-update code in that particular release, the effect of which is that auto-updating from that version will not be possible. However, you can instead download the next release from our Downloads page and then use that to manually update. From that point forward you should be fine with auto-updates. Plex Media Server v1.4.3 is already released and is available for download. Apologies for any inconvenience you may experience from this.
Thanks so much for using Plex and Plex Pass!
- The Plex Team"
Plex Media Server v1.4.3 totally broke my installation on OSX. No local files or even cloud available.

You download and install it the exact same way you originally installed it. the download link is in the email. or you can go to our downloads page. on a Mac you just replace what is in your Applications folder like any other app you do not get from the Mac App store

Please make a new thread with your server logs and such.
To update manually. Download the plex server app as stated. Then shut down the existing plex server running on your mac or PC. Then open and install the downloaded file in the same location as your current plex server app. It will overwrite and update the old version and everything should work as before.
That’s how it worked for me on OSX.
This does not work. I continue to receive a message from PLEX in the media server. A yellow banner that says an update is available and to install manually. On a PC, I downloaded the file PlexMediaServer_1.4.3.3433-03e4cfa35_x86.qpkg. If I click on it, it opens up in notebook. I shut down the Plex Server, and it made no difference. There are no instructions as to what to do with the file once it is downloaded. Some simple instructions would really be appreciated.
qpkg is for a QNAP NAS. double clicking it on your computer won’t do anything because it is not an installer for your computer. you need to use the installer of NAS like you would install anything on a QNAP NAS if that is what you have. in QNAP is should be > log into QNAP Admin interface, select the QNAP App-Center, and then Manual install, browse to the file and select it.
Big Wheel, thank you for the suggestion but nothing works. I turned off security , downloaded the app three times. Nothing works. I wouldn’t push this so much but I find it crazy that I get an email from PLEX telling to do this and it wont work. I have used PLEX for over 5 years and have never run into this. Is it a MAC thing ?
Big Wheel, after many many many attempts it finally accepted the update. I rebooting my computer with everything shut down. thx !
