Server Version#: 1.15.5.994 via Plex Server push alert of Manual Plex Update, April 26, 2019
Server Version#: 1723879 via WD NAS push alert of Plex Update Available, April 26, 2019
Player Version#:
Hardware:
WD NAS
Roku
TV
My WD NAS alerted me of an update for Plex after I already installed an update push from logging into my Plex Server on my PC.
Today I received this error:
“Update your Plex Media Server This version of the web app requires Plex Media Server 1.7.0 or higher”
– after I updated my Plex with a push notification onto WD NAS; this notification/error was from my Roku hardware plugged into my TV. I use Ethernet cable, but that’s extra information.
Remember:
WD NAS uses Linux technology.
My PC uses Windows technology.
Windows works with Linux, mostly, but using cross platform capabilities.
When the notification/error occured:
WD NAS — -received a push and installed version 1723878 on today’s date.
Plex Server -received a push and installed version 1.15.5.994 on today’s date.
If installing update via WD NAS, the update takes place automatically via internet and server.
If installing update via Plex Server alert, you must download the version and perform a manual install onto the WD NAS.
Something is not reading correctly or interpreting correctly on the Plex end when identifying the version of its own software. See my notes on Plex’s WD NAS push update version number vs. Plex Server login push update version number (1723878 vs 1.15.5.994).
So now I have to remember to IGNORE the WD NAS Warning of Plex Update.
The fix:
I re-installed version 1.15.5.994 from the version pushed by the Plex Server when logging into Plex on my PC. I now ignore the Warning of Plex update being pushed onto my WD NAS which seems to not be using the proper version name schema and also older updates perhaps.
I uploaded 11 images for reference of the culprit. Linux vs. Windows.
