ok, have finally given in and updated my Netgear NAS with the latest version. As Xbox wanted to see a more up to date version in order to connect. Problem is, everything I now try to play my Xbox says the server is not powerful enough to allow play back! Why was it ok before but now after updating it’s not? HELP!
Before we could guess at what is happening, we would need to see your Plex Media Server.log (with debug enabled) to see what the server is reporting as happening. The app itself doesn’t control when a server can or cannot transcode, only when it can’t direct play a file. So we would have to determine why the app is requesting a transcode in order to try and prevent it from happening.
(The only recent change for the MDE was the removal of direct playback of eAC3 track’s in MKV because of a bad interaction occurring for some users)
ok, so have set EVERYTHING to ultra low res. I still can’t even play a home movie encoded to 480p. There has to be something seriously wrong with the new xbox app. I am having no problem watching anything via the plex app on my Apple TV, even playing it at full 1080p, come on guys, please help with the latest Xbox App which clearly isn’t working.
Have attached the logs files, thank you for looking.
I also notice that if you have remote access disabled on the server which I almost certainly did, in the new Xbox App, it won’t even see my server unless it has the Remote Access enabled. I never had the Remote Access running on the older server version.
Did you try and play one of the files causing a problem before uploading the logs?
Looking through them I don’t any request for a stream that was rejected. There’s streams that were transcoded playing and other streams that were direct played but nothing that was requested and then rejected by the MDE. If you could try and play a file that is giving you the error message and then attach the logs after that we might be able to see more, but from the previous logs there isn’t any error messages to go off of.

The Plex app on the Xbox One has always needed remote access to find the server. This is because the app is restricted from browsing your local network so the only way for the app to find your server is to ask the plex.tv server what your local ip address is.
With the new app, there is also now the option to specify a local ip address instead of only relying on the phone home. Previously, this was not an option, but now you can find it in the settings → manual servers section.

If you put the IP address in manually does that allow access when sign in services are down for Xbox and/or Plex?

When plex services are down it should work. Because it tells your app exactly where the server is so as long as the server believes that the app is provisioned it should work.
When Xbox live is down, that’s another story. The problem with the dependency on Xbox live is that when the xbox live servers are down it normally prevents apps from opening. And if the app can’t open then nothing Plex does will matter. And Vice versa if the app is already open whatever happens with the Xbox live services don’t matter. So, if the xbox live servers go down while you’re watching a movie it won’t affect you at all as the their servers do nothing when it comes to the server/client aspect of things, it’s just that initial provision check if your account has access to the plex app. (There has been talk about trying to get around this restriction, but I have no information on what has/is happening with that aspect of things)

Cool, thanks. I’ll definitely set the server ip address then. At least ill be covered if there’s a Plex outage.
The files uploaded on the server are the same files they have always been and they always played before on the older version of plex on XBox

The only recent change to the MDE was the removal of direct play of eAC3 in an MKV container. If the audio tracks in these files are not eAC3 we would need log files that show why the files are not direct playing now. The logs you posted above show no failed streaming attempts, everything that was requested to be played by all the clients, was played.
