I am using an external drive and 2013 macbook pro. Never had any playback issues in many, many years of using Plex. I’m running OSX Big Sur 11.6.1 on the MBP. I have thoroughly trouble-shot the exernal hard drive and it’s fine. Laptop works fine. I even did a clean OS install and re-installed Plex. Same playback error. I can play all of my media files no problem through VLC, etc, just nothing works with Plex anymore. There must be something simple I’m overlooking!
doesn’t sound like your server can see the files. you are just seeing the library because it could previously see the files and created the library but it can no longer access them.
or can you not access the server settings in the web application?
Both things. The file paths the server is looking at are all correct (i.e. I haven’t changed a directory name or something). Not being able to access the server settings is new since this last upate.
can you roll back to your server to the previous version that worked? its unclear based on what you are saying what your issue is. you should be able to access the server from the machine you are running the server on. maybe the server was lost and you need to reclaim it. there are FAQs on how to do that.
I have no issue with the seeing the server. I restarted it a few times and now I’m back to being able to access server settings again. It is very unclear what my issue is, but thanks a ton for commenting. I’ve been using Plex since 2010 and I’m about to give up on it.
I figured it out. Plex thinks my drive is called “Media Server Backup 1” and OSX thinks it’s called “Media Server Backup”. The vagaries of Macintosh strike again.
