I would estimate that every other update that Plex pushes crashes Chrome or Windows or both. They often take more “a few minutes,” contrary to the screen that pops up, and they are always disruptive. I assume there’s a good reason why there are so many updates to the software even though very little actually changes in the program and nothing at all changes in the network process. But it would be awesome if unless there’s a major security or performance flaw, you’d announce updates by email and only push them out once every two months.
You can prevent PMS from updating automatically by setting Settings → General → Server version updates to “Ask me.” Also, you can reduce the frequency of updates by setting Settings → General → Server update Channel to “Public.”
Finally, if you’d like to be notified when there are PMS updates, you can set your interest to this forum thread to “Watching.”
It is updated (most of the time) when there are new releases to either the Public or Beta update channels; release notes are included.
I have only recently updated PMS to the latest from 1.14. I normally hold off if mine is stable. I also have windows updates turned off as well because those could also have some issue w/ PMS running. My win10 machine is dedicated to PMS so I don’t care that they are turned off.
I only do public updates and I update every time. I’ve never had Chrome or Windows crash. Are you running windows 10 and if so is it a upgrade from a previous version or a clean install?
Nor me and Windows updates whenever it feels the need and I update through the PlexPass channel.
