UPDATES are STILL HORRIBLE and hard to do. I had to log in and figure it out myself and nobody told me how to do it and none of the posts helped. It was so confusing, if somebody asked me what I did- I would not be able to tell them! (I have had music/data lost before doing these stupid MF updates.) Talk about a MAD FEMALE WHEN YOU LOSE THE ONLY THING YOU LIKE IN LIFE- MUSIC.
All this, and all I get is a USELESS app that I don’t need or want- Tidal. I have so many music paid services already and I don’t even like Plex that much as I did before they started scrapping all of the good things about it. So how about making UPDATING easier so PEOPLE CAN ACTUALLY DO IT RIGHT instead of LOSING ALL OF THEIR DATA?!!!
Still use Plex somewhat, but only for playing music. So frustrating.
I am not going to use “Tidal”. I use Soundcloud primary. Mixcloud, Amazon Music, Apple Music, Spotify. Get a grip. I am not going to ever buy a “Sonos” anything either. They are crap and a bad company. Bad Lifetime Plex Pass -almost useless junk
The “Plex” “UPDATE” DID NOT UPDATE. So I am still needing an UPDATE. Clicking on the “DOWNLOAD UPDATES” does NOTHING. Why the ■■■■ can I not UPDATE my media server!!!
Earlier when I tried to “update” the “update” showed up on my Windows 10 screen, but then when I restarted PC and re-opened “Plex”, the ■■■■■■■ update had GONE AWAY. Version 1.13.5.5291
WHAT DO I DO?
That’s one hell of a rant without giving any relevant info.
Updating PMS or something else.
If PMS what OS?
Can be turned off in settings and you will never see the word Tidal ever again other than on the forums.
I would humbly suggest that less ranting and more explaining the issues in detail will be a better solution.
OK your edit at least explained the OS.
Version 1.13.anything is a seriously old version of PMS.
Try uninstalling via control panel > Remove programs. Do not use ant garbage like CC cleaner and 3rd party uninstall programs.
Then install the new version.
NOPE. Not doing that. If I uninstall and reinstall, I lose all of my playlists. Do you KNOW HOW LONG IT TOOK ME TO ASSEMBLE ALL OF MY PLAYLISTS AND MAKE ARTWORK FOR IT??? Why are you torturing me?
No you don’t.
Your Plex data folder is untouched assuming you don’t use 3rd party cleaners.
Ok thanks. I’ll get help from my husband who is a Sr. C++ Developer Engineer and can do anything required. Just seems like anybody should be able to do a simple update.
OK cool and good luck.
I have no idea why you would leave the server not updated for 14 months. (that’s how old it is) and then complain it will not update properly.
Anyone can update easily especially on Windows but doing it once every year plus is a recipe for disaster.
I’ll tell you why. Because in the past I did an update ( yes a long time ago) and in doing so I lost all of my previously saved files. So now you can see if it means I lose music- i don’t update. Thanks for your help. We have all of my data backed up now so it is safe to proceed.
Just to weigh in you don’t need to uninstall the current version of PMS. You can download the latest installer and install it to the same directory as you’re current install of PMS and all should work fine. That is of course if the “check for updates” feature is not working for some reason.
As an aside I’ve been using PMS on a Windows server for a number of years now and have never had an update remove my data- in fact Plex has a pretty big stance on not touching user data. IIRC you have to manually enable the feature to let clients delete files. Of course Playlists are a bit different, as they’re created by Plex.
Also as has already been mentioned please consider how you approach an issue on here. Most of the people who offer help aren’t Plex employees and are simply trying to help.
I may be old in replying, but you left such a LONG AND POINTLESS rant that basically told the people who could help you, nothing.
I maintain multiple Plex servers, in different locations. My company is actually developing a product that will incorporate Plex in it. So, with that being said, I am just stating that to show that I M not a novice. But updating Plex is a simple process, and as with ANY software, making backups before doing an update is highly advised and advocated. This is not just for Plex, but as I stated, ANY software.
But Plex’s infrastructure and installer make it incredibly easy to upgrade, especially on Windows. Being a
as your husband is really means nothing in the grand scheme of things. This is just me ranting, but most software development companies don’t just label their developers “Sr. C++ Developer Engineer”. Usually, it is just “Sr Software Engineer” Despite that, since Plex is a closed eco-system, his programming skills don’t matter. But I am getting off subject.
A simple google search for Updating Plex brought me this:
Updating Plex Media Server
Further reading the post, took me to this page:
Installing Plex
Updating Plex on Windows is by far, the easiest to do. Even updating on Linux has become an easy task with the addition of Repository Updating. While the majority of the Plex servers I maintain are Linux based, there are a few Windows and FreeBSD installations. The biggest hurdle I face is, one of the instances we manage has approximately 6TB of media and services about 40 connected devices. At any time, there seems to always be someone viewing content and finding a “safe” time, where the impact is low becomes the hard part. But with the update taking less than 2 minutes to complete, the users have come to expect an outage around 2am localtime. Unless there is a critical update that has to happen, they are notified in advance. And typically, the only “critical” updates have been to the operating system or network.
So please, post more information, and maybe someone can help you directly
I support the rant. I’ve been looking for a workaround to play soundcloud via plex, instead I see a company selling out for partnerships with lower grade music streaming companies - Tidal. Soundcloud opens up possibilities for multiple underground artists, and I enjoy listening to it. Be it indie rock or 90s house. Record labels and artists upload new mixes and release previews on a daily basis and plex decided to move away from a open community and sell out its features. As for any company, this is looked down upon, except for the consumer whores who are ok paying for spotify, pandora and tidal at the same time, sad part is, they can’t play them at the same time aahahahaha.
