Hi. I have problems with updates on the Plex server. I have Version 1.16.2.1321 and I cannot update to the last 1.18.4.2171, I download the update, I get the poster informing that it is updating that it is not available now, but although 1 hour is the same poster, you update the web and you get the same version and you realize that you have not done anything. I have tried restarting, download several times, but I have not achieved anything.
Update “manually”. All you need to do is:
- Stop/quit/end Plex Server with the tray icon
- deinstall Plex Server with the regular ‘Apps’ control panel of Windows (do not use 3rd party ‘Uninstaller’ software like Revo etc.)
- for safety, reboot Windows
- download the installation exe of the newer version and install it
(If you want to install an older version of PMS, take a look into %LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server\Updates)
The biggest problem is all the training I have, the last time I made a backup but not saved for example all the movies or series seen. there is no other way? Is this error mormal?
Thanks!
Sorry, I’m not sure I understand.
If you follow my method, there is no data loss at all.
Good morning friend.
Sorry for my English, I use the google translator.
The fear I have is losing all the information from movies or TV series seen by all users, and shared. Because everyone at home uses their user.
What I have understood, that you use the windows uninstaller. But won’t it erase all the information? What folder do I back up?
And then I reinstall and the data will be there?
I feel my ignorance, but the last time I did something like that all the information was erased.
Again: there is no data loss, if you follow the above steps.
Quick Question for you
Did Plex Media Server 1.19.1.2621 fix the issue of commercials not being removed?
The comments below seems tobe referring to another issue.
What’s changed:
Addressed issue with commercial removal preference not being set when removing and adding DVR.
No, there is no final fix for the comskip in there.
Ha sido perfecto!
Para actualizar:
- Ver dirección de donde está instalado, ejemplo C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Local - Apuntarlo -
- Desistalar Plex+ Reiniciar equipo
- Instalar actualización y poner la misma ruta para que lea los archivos.
Todo perfecto. Muchas Gracias. @OttoKerner
It was perfect!
To actualize:
- See address of where it is installed, example C: \ Users \ xxx \ AppData \ Local - Write it down -
- Uninstall Plex + Restart equipment
- Install update and put the same path to read the files.
Everything is perfect, thank you. @OttoKerner
Thank you. Is there a timeline for this?
I keep having to uninstall the updates and reinstalling Version 1.18.5.2309 to get the Commercial removal working.
I appreciate the work you all are doing.
Sorry, no timeline. This is still under investigation.
Hello again. Is it normal that I can’t update the plex server versions? I have to remove it every time and reinstall it as we saw a long time ago. Can I do something to update it on the web and make it faster? Thank you.
Verify that the “Plex Updater Service” is running.
It sometimes fails to start at bootup, if the Plex data folder is not available (e.g. if it is located on an encrypted volume, which needs to be unlocked first.)
Try setting its start mode to “Automatic delayed”.
I have tried, but it has not let me do it, I have had to do it manually, I will take it into account for the next one and comment on the result, I will look to see what is the problem that the process does not run. Thank you so much!
