I have different libraries pointing to the same shows, In the past this has worked flawlessly and if I watched a show it would update the watch status for that show in all the libraries that is appeared. It is no longer doing that or seems it works sometimes an not others. Is there a setting in the server that I have missed that allows watch status to be updated.
I always thought that the watched status was assigned to the show and not Library/show!
I see that recently the option to show in the home screen has been removed from the Library edit section and a new drop down is available that lets you choose more specifically what to show in the home screen. I only have the library that point to all the TV shows to display in the home screen otherwise this will cause duplicates to appear in the Continue watching or On deck sections.
I have attached a screen shot where you can see Marvels agents of SHIELD on the same server in 2 different libraries with different watched status.
The only way that can happen, as far as I know, is if the libraries (or even a specific show) are using different agents to find the metadata. Plex will actually consider them as separate TV shows then, and each show will have it’s own watched status. Example - TV_Library_1 uses the new Plex agent, TV_Library_2 uses one of the older agents.
It’s a little work, but go to an episode (not the show or season) click on the 3 dot (ellipses) icon and then “Get Info”. Click on “View XML” at the bottom of the pop-up window. In the first or second line you should see something like: guid="com.plexapp.agents.thetvdb:"
That tells me the show is matched with the TVDB agent. (I don’t have anything matched to the MovieDB, so I don’t know what that will exactly say)
Shows I have matched with the new agent in another library have: guid="plex:"
If they are the same guid in both libraries, the watched status should be the same. Well, it used to work that way, but maybe something has changed recently, or you’ve found a new bug.
I don’t have a definite fix, and I have configured my TV libraries to use the new agent for new additions, so my only option is the new agent.
I think, but I’m not sure, if you are still using the legacy agents, you can try “Fix Match” at the show level and you can specify which agent to use. You might have to “Unmatch” first. I honestly don’t know if that will combine the watched status’, or completely re-set for the show, so try it at your own risk.
Maybe if you give it some time, someone will come along and give you some better advice.
