Upgrade to 1.15.2.793-782228f99 breaks plex -- Prevents from Starting

Server Version#: 1.15.2.793-782228f99
Player Version#: N/A

got prompted to upgrade to the latest 1.15.2.x release today, but after I did so, Plex was thoroughly broken. tried restarting a bunch of times, but the web interface on port 32400 just returns a 500 error. looking at “/var/log/plex/Plex Media Server.log”, seems like the sqlite database is messed up, or not properly upgraded:

Mar 19, 2019 15:32:04.546 [0x7fb7527fc700] ERROR - SQLITE3:(nil), 1, no such column: devices.platform in "select devices.id as ‘devices_id’, devices.identifier as ‘devices_identifier’, devices.name as ‘devices_name’, devices.created_at as ‘devices_created_at’, devices.updated_a
Mar 19, 2019 15:32:04.546 [0x7fb7527fc700] ERROR - Soci Exception handled: sqlite3_statement_backend::prepare: no such column: devices.platform for SQL: select devices.id as ‘devices_id’, devices.identifier as ‘devices_identifier’, devices.name as ‘devices_name’, devices.created_at as ‘devices_created_at’, devices.updated_at as ‘devices_updated_at’, devices.platform as ‘devices_platform’ from devices where identifier=?

how can I fix this?? :frowning:

5 posts were split to a new topic: PMS 1.15.2 - Migration problems when updating from PMS 1.14.1

Upgraded today and now I’m having an issue where I cannot click on anything from the dashboard. It shows that there are two “items” running but when I click on the “2” to see what it is, I get a “No Soup For You” screen!

Yep upgraded today to 1.15.1.791 (it popped up on the top of my server, and there are no more current updates) and bam no more remote access within the house on my tvs, or mobile devices. I tried the troubleshooting, resetting the router, the pc, checked the firewall, and all other recommended connections including the NAT and it is all functioning correctly. I have had the plex remote servers working for months up until this most recent update.

ok, so I downloaded to the latest release in their apt repo (1.14.1.5488), and now it works fine again, with the original database files. so I’d recommend just downloading this package, as it seems to be a completely broken update.

I updated and broke my plex. Ended up rolling back to 1.14.1.5488 just to get it back up… working for now.

Running 793 here without issue.

May I have the logs (full ZIP or tar.gz of the Logs directory) ?

Same problem here with the loss of Remote Access as soon as I updated to 1.15.1.791 this afternoon. Remote Access had been running perfectly for probably the last 2 years. Now can’t get it to stay green for more than a couple of seconds. Nothing has changed here. The Relay seems to work in its absence but would sure like to get Remote Access back! Any suggestions from anyone who can get it back working please let us know.

Can you please explain to us how to exactly downgrade from the latest update? I’ve never had to do that before, but with the broken Remote Access now, I’m wanting to do that. I’m just not sure how as PMS does it all within itself to upgrade, so I’m not sure how to manually downgrade.

Same problem here on Ubuntu 18.04. Upgraded with this package: plexmediaserver_1.15.1.791-8bec0f76c_amd64.deb
Now getting server connection refused when accessing locally. Access from other local devices no longer works.
I tried installing a previously downloaded package: plexmediaserver_1.14.1.5488-cc260c476_amd64.deb and am still receiving the same error. Service status shows everything is working correctly and I see nothing out of the ordinary in the logs. This seems like a permission issue but I have no idea what to change. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

How did you roll the update back? I can’t seem to see where to do that or where to even get the previous version? I’m running PMS on Windows 10.

I found this article: I need to rollback from the latest Plex update
I’m not sure how this will work in your specific situation but it may.

To answer an earlier question here for Linux users (I am the Linux guy)

  1. Ubuntu/Debian: dpkg -r plexmediaserver (Do Not specify to purge)
  2. Fedora/Centos rpm -e plexmediaserver (or yum/dnf remove plexmediaserver)

Your metadata is still there where you left it.

Now install the desired package (DEB or RPM)

Running Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS here. Same situation of colleagues … appeared alert for manual upgrade, I downloaded .deb for version 1.15.1.791-8bec0f76c. Download done, package installed and WOW!

Nothing else works …
extremely frustrating.

With the “systemctl status plexmediaserver” I see that the server is active / running.

But strangely, with “sudo netstat -lnpt | grep Plex” I get absolutely nothing.

Did I mention that this is extremely frustrating?

Grab me the Logs please?

sudo tar cfz /tmp/Logs.tar.gz "/var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Logs"

That grabs all of it

Now upload the tar.gz here. I am all setup to handle it natively here.

edit: removed log

Ran the removal line that you posted in your last reply and installed 1.14 again, still no luck. I’ve uploaded the logs as requested. Thank you in advance for taking a look at this.

let’s see …

Logs.tar.gz (3.3 MB)

Thanks for the help, but I need to go to sleep. I had a long day and tomorrow will be another long journey. As soon as I can get free to see this, I’ll come back here.

I have the same issue on ubuntu 16.04

@Tribute12

You’re running 1.14.1 again? All the data from 1.15.2 has fallen off the back end of the logs buffer (only 26 MB worth by default).

I do see this device advertising itself and not responding per spec. Any chance of turning off the Advertisement ?

@caparica1975

You also are running 1.14.1?

May ask you both to do the following if you dont mind? I would like you to preserve your existing installation just in case.

  1. stop Plex
  2. cd /var/lib/plexmediaserver
  3. sudo tar cfz /home/your-user-directory/PlexBackup.tar.gz ./Library
  4. When that finishes,
  5. Now install 1.15.2.793
  6. Let it startup and come to the menu (if it will )
  7. Recreate the problem(s) as you see it and stop immediately thereafter
  8. Wait 30 seconds
  9. Stop Plex
  10. Grab the manual Logs again please.
