I’ve recently upgraded my router from the standard ISP supplier to my own one. This is a TP Link Archer AX1500. I am having trouble accessing via remote access on my TV’s and devices throughout the house now.
UPnP is on and shows the server in the list of devices
NAT-PMP 14068 tcp
192.168.1.228
32400
14068
TCP
I’ve tried adding the IP above as a static IP, enabling port forwarding on 32400/32400 and clicking the manual port forward box in plex but still no luck.
I’ve checked canyouseeme.org and the port 32400 is no visible
At a bit of a loss as to how to fix this so would appreciate any help
Are you sure that your new router is the only “router”-type device in your network? Any box that is delivered by the ISP can potentially be another router. Which would put you into a “double-NAT” situation, which doesn’t allow you to do any port forwarding.
It is also possible that your ISP has run out of IPv4 adresses, and so has started to put its customers behind a Corporate Grade-NAT. Whiich would put you into a “double-Nat” situation as well.
Yes, I have simply replaced the old router with the new router, no additional devices where added to the network. Plex was working fine with the old router and is now only having issue with the new router.
The ISP hasn’t changed so I don’t understand why they would suddenly run out of IPv4 addresses (same ISP for 6 years, same old router, everything worked fine).
If you can still power on the old router, try swapping them again. If now everything suddenly works again, then it might have to do with the configuration of the old router.
(Or maybe the MAC address of the old router, which causes the ISP to activate a special configuration for your connection.)
I’ve swapped back the old router and now Plex works without issue. One thing I noticed is the IPv6 is enabled on old router but not new router - could this be the issue?
It is possible. IPv6 remote access does work with some client types.
But do also take a look at the port forwarding table, if there are any permanent (manual) forwardings in there.
The least you need to do after swapping the router is to reboot your server device.
Because it is not guaranteed that the new router is using the same IP address range for your local network.
No port forwarding on old router but UPnp enabled. I also noticed that in Windows network settings, the old router uses ‘Network’ where as the new router uses ‘Network 2’ if this makes any difference? I will try going back to the new router and enabling IPv6
Yes, Windows notices a router change. It will also switch the connection type of the new connection to “public”. Make sure you set that to “private” – otherwise pretty much all connections to your server will either fail or be degraded in bandwidth.
Hooked up the new router again, enabled IPv6 and restarted server, same issue is occuring. Seems to be related directly to the router - I can’t understand what the issue is with router at this point…
I’d call the ISP and ask them if they have any special configuration for your connection, that is somehow tied to your router device.
Ask them how to make a port forwarding.
They are helpful and responsive and will have more information and familiarity for tracking down hiccups with your router setup (and likely be familiar with Plex port forwarding since it’s pretty common).
