Like an impatient fool, I upgraded my Synology NAS to DSM 7, much to my chagrin. Then this morning, I used the “repair” feature to fix my PMS. I know, I was not supposed to do that…
Anyway, after reading quite a few threads on this topic, and doing a couple of things (permissions, timeout, etc), I decided to just start over, and uninstalled the old PMS version. When I try to install the new 1.25.1.5286 version, I get the “The operation failed. Please sign in to DSM again and retry” message.
I’m thinking it’s residuals setting from the old installation that are causing this - how can I see non-erased, yet uninstalled, packages? Or how can I just delete them outright?
Hi @ChuckPa, I checked the Resource Monitor and there are very few tasks running (about 10 in total, all with very minimal CPU usage, and none with a name that would indicate they are related to the PSM). Having read what I initially wrote, I’d prefer to keep my settings (mainly the watch status of the various things on my server) so just flat-out deleting it in its entirety is not the preferred solution, even if we get to that point.
I should maybe note that I had to manually create the PlexMediaServer folder as it did not exist. This was done well after I updated DSM or tried to install 1.25.1.5286. I also gave PMS full control of that folder .
You do not create PlexMediaServer . It is created and managed by DSM.
Given you thought you needed it implies you didn’t install a version above 1.24.2.4973 (when it came to be the standard configuration). Which version did you attempt to install ? (Package Center version 1.21.0.3744 or from Plex.tv/downloads)
Please now confirm for me:
– Your metadata still exists in the “Plex” shared folder (Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server)
– If you have a ‘Migration.log’ file in the “Plex” shared folder and what is in it.
I used the Package Center, and it installed 1.21. That’s one of the things I noticed (it being well below the 1.25 version I was expecting to see (and was downloadable from the plex.tv downloads section). At that point PSM was functional, but I decided to manually upgrade to the latest DSM7 version - and that’s when it started to go wrong.
The metadata still exists in the Plex shared folder as you described. There is no migration.log file in there, though.
