Use Playlists created in Plex over DLNA (Feature request)

I love plex but for me the one thing that I find frustrating is that when you create playlists in plex you cannot listen to them over DLNA.
I know DLNA isn’t for everyone but on some devices it is the only option.
I use DLNA all over the house, on the stereo in the kitchen, on the tvs in the house (although I prefer Plex client)
I have used other clients namely Music station for Qnap, just because of the playlists over DLNA feature but I prefer Plex and instead of using for movies and series only I would like to make use of the music side too!

Thanks for your time and keep up the good work.

I really like to see that.
Since all the audio multiroom systems I know do not support Plex, the only way to use it is via DLNA.
So having the playlists exposed as folders would be a great thing!!!

Yes please add this feature

I would like this as well.

Dear Plex Team,

I voted for this feature as well. When using DLNA, it seems close to imperative, doesn’t it?

I’m not a Python developer, but I’m ready to learn, in case you provide some clues on whether coding a plugin would enable the feature.

Thanks,
Benoît

This would be great on Playstation 4, since DLNA is the only way to get Plex music playing in the background while playing a game.

Please implement this. This would help with Denon AV’s using the Helios app.

Yeeees do it please. Would like to move from MediaMonkey (there we have this Feature) to Plex but this one thing is stopping me doing it.

I would love to see this supported as well. Ever since upgrading my media server to Win10, I can’t seem to use the native Windows DLNA to play playlists on any of my DLNA devices. Would love to switch to Plex DLNA if only it supported playlists. Thanks!

I would really love this feature. I am so close to just going all in on Plex it is tempting. My issue is that I have a Heos Home system. We can make our own playlists in Heos’ app, but they are not then accessible to on our phones while we travel. We can obviously make our own playlists in the Plex web client, but we can’t access them on the Heos because Plex is not integrated as a source of music in the Heos app except via as a Plex Media Server. But Plex Media Server doesn’t do playlists!!! Argh!!!

When i see we can’t search in Plex library with DLNA (search capabilities not implemented) …

Impossible to use with Hifi setup …

Playllists over DLNA? YES PLEASE!

Another vote for HEOS and play list integration! I have a Denon AVR and its Plex support is terrible.

Plex in Heos gets my vote, too. I would love to see the option to select an artist or track and start Plex Radio. For those who do not know, you can Bluetooth connect to one of your Heos devices and then group from there. So, it is possible via the Plex app on your phone and Bluetooth as a work around until true support exists.

+1

I can create a playlist instead but my Denon Heos does not see it. I was hoping to use folders as playlists but it is impossible in Plex. Details here. So sharing playlist via DLNA would be perfect.

Sorry, I do not understand. Could you please elaborate on it? I used to play my flac files from playlist folders (from USB pendrive) in Heos but it reorders playback by song title when I click “play all”, which is terrible. Plus it is poor in general. Slow, gives dozens of errors and needs restart frequently. So I am trying Plex. Can I get my Plex playlist visible in Heos somehow?

It is just a work around and doesn’t get your Plex playlist in HEOS. What I mean is that you can connect your phone to one of your HEOS speakers via Bluetooth connection and then you can play your playlists from the Plex app on your phone on your HEOS device. Once you’ve connected to that device with Bluetooth, you can then go into the HEOS app and group other speakers so you can play your Bluetooth connection across multiple HEOS speakers at the same time.

Yes I vote for this too! Please, pretty please!

Hello all: I submitted a similar feature request over here: https://forums.plex.tv/t/feature-request-better-integration-with-heos/483819?u=sjkiss. I’ve voted here as well!

Moin. I have found a good substitute solution to this problem. But it costs something.
I have now bought a small Intel-NUC and connected it via HDMI directly to my ONKYO-Reveiver. Since this PC is also connected to my home network and the PLEX-Player is installed, I can select this player from any other device and control it remotely. Works elegant and problem-free. Cheers

Sorry, what is an Intel-NUC? And what is an ONKYO-Reveiver? I’m definitely interested, but I would value more details!
