Use thetvdb ID in local files to match

Is there any way so i can integrate thetvdb ID and put it in the folder name or in an nfo file ?

Since i manage my stuff manually and look up the series/movie names on thetvdb so they can automatch pretty much everytime.
But sometimes the scanner does weird stuff like:
“Folder-> Ajin” matched to series “Akinci” ?? Even tho there is an show on thetvdb exacatly named Ajin. So i needed to add the Date in the Folder name to automatch.

I dislike to manually match/correct stuff inside plex, in case i need to redo stuff and or move the plex-server i just want it to auto match everything correctly.

i’m not trying to match with imdb ids.
cases i tried:

  • only ID as folder name.
  • tvdb in nfo file inside the folder

The new tv show scanner/agent seems to include support for IDs in the folder name (similarly to how the movie agent is working today). The new agent is currently in a forum preview stage but expected to come to the official beta releases soon.

does it work with only ID’s ? or is still trying to match with names first ?

I think the ID# takes priority.
The folder name would look something like;
Ajin {tvdb 300835}

Please keep in mind this is referring to a yet to be released feature. Right now you won’t be able to use those IDs in folder names!

is therer and estimate when this version is going to be released as beta ?

Devs posted earlier today that the current preview version will likely be the last before the official beta. Then again… while that implies it’ll indeed be soon, there’s no ETA.

so i tried naming the folder again with the new Beta Agent.
I still dont get match based on tvdb-id.
i removed any other meta from files&folder to test exactly this.

is this the correct Syntax for including IDs folder-names ?

so naming the folder

plsMatchMe (tvdb-380477)

worked for me. maybe only putting the id as fodler name is not working. I’ll fiddle some more around

You need to put in curly brackets and preferably after the actual show name, like this:

/tv/Show Name (2020) {tvdb-12345}/Season xx....

Similarly to how it’s explained here for movies: Naming and organizing your Movie files | Plex Support

We’ll be updating the support pages for TV over the new week or two.

You could also use the Absolute Series Scanner [GitHub - ZeroQI/Absolute-Series-Scanner: Seasons, absolute mode, Subfolders...] and either label the folder “title [tvdb-12345]”, or put a tvdb.id file inside the series folder with the tvdb id inside… It will rename the title with thetvdb id, which is supported by thetvdb agent…

I didn’t see it mentioned here, so in case it helps: you can go to the series in the web interface, use the overflow (vertical dots) menu to pick “Match…”, then under Search Options, replace the entire title of the show with just the TVDB ID number. When you search, it will always return the correct show, which you can then pick. A minor hassle but you should only have to do it once.
