I run a Plex server on a Mac Mini in my home and am a lifetime Plex Pass holder. I created a second account for a relative to stream from my server and purchased a lifetime Plex Pass under that account as well. However, when that person tries to sign in with the iOS app, they get a “User could not be authenticated” error. I also get it when trying to sign in with the iOS app with their credentials. However, those credentials work fine to access the Plex web app. Why would the web app authenticate successfully but not the iOS app? I’ve double and triple checked that I’m using the same credentials across both.
I’m also having a similar challenge with the current version of Plex IOS App (7.11). I’m able to login to my plex account on my Iphone 8 no issue. I have a box-fresh Ipad 8 Gen and when entering my credentials in the app I’m met with the “user could not be authenticated” Error. I’ve been meticulous in entering the correct username and password, but cannot connect to my PMS with the new Ipad. I’m not convinced that that the issue is password related as stated in other feeds in this forum. Any advice on alternative solution would be very helpful.
I had this issue on my iPhone 12 briefly and luckily was able to use my google account to work around this issue, but it’s not really a “fix” to whatever problem is going on.
I tried logging in with the correct email/pass combination (I’m sure) several times to the iOS app and got the same “User could not be authenticated” error mentioned above. Since my email that’s connected account is my gmail, I was able to work around the problem by logging in with google account.
Still, I hope this issue is solved, it’s pretty serious.
