User level remote access restrictions

I would like to suggest that a new option is added for users in the settings area. Under restrictions, have a new item called “Remote Access” so an administrator can enable/disable remote access at a user level.

I like being able to see my server remotely occasionally, but due to our local rural Internet provider and their data caps I want to limit my kids from also streaming from the house to wherever they are. I have had an instance where one kid turned off wifi, left on cellular data, and then streamed from our Plex server. So she’s inside the house, but streaming movies through our slow, capped, Internet service, and chewing up my 500GB per month data cap.

You can ask to turn off cellular data usage on the client?

In principle it should be up to the client to decide whether he wants to use his mobile data bundle or not.

The issue isn’t using up cellular data. The issue is that my cable Internet provider has a monthly 500GB data cap on my residential Internet service.

I want to be able to access the Plex server remotely myself, but disable the kids’ account ability to access remotely so they don’t cause my cable provider to have a chance to slap me with overages.

If you are willing to set this up yourself, you can fashion a solution which stops the stream immediately if certain users are remote.

This is exactly the feature I was looking for. I have looked at OttoKerner’s link but as a novice, I don’t know where to start.
