Doesn’t matter what he types in, nothing shows up except the standard ‘no results match this blah blah’. He is on a samsung device. Deleted the appdata and cache and reinstall, no change.
Does this mean an Android phone or a TV?
Make sure they did not disable all the sources to search. Search settings menu for that is on the right side of the search field ( two lines with dots on them)
Apologies, yes Samsung phone, in particular an A53 5G.
I did have him just check the search options and he has them checked.
So as of this morning, I now have two more users reporting the same issue. One on a Samsung tablet, the other on an iPhone. So it is no longer appearing to be a Samsung specific issue.
I’ll check but that menu your in is for each individual library? Or general library settings? Also wouldn’t that just exclude MY libraries? It still doesn’t explain why they can’t search for plex specific content.
It is per each library
If they completely disabled things for their account at https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/online-media-sources then those won’t show up in as options to in search settings. The only other reason i can think of is maybe the app versions they are using are too old to have the options
I’m going to have to dig into this a little. From my understanding as they don’t actually have a plex account they are just logging in using mine to gain access to their managed account, they can’t actually change any of these settings.
It would have to have been something happened in plex during an update maybe, that those settings were changed without my knowledge.
Will take some time shortly to assess everything and make sure all settings are as they should be.
You should not give people your credentials. Regular accounts can be added to your Plex Home if you are just trying to give them access to mobile apps for free.
If they are using managed accounts then you need to make sure that is not set to disabled or Disabled for managed accounts when you look at those settings under your account.
There was no update to an app or server that would have changed the online media sources settings, they are account settings not app or server settings
It is good practice not to of course. My only managed users are direct family (brother, sister, parents) so I’m not overly worried, but yes I should plan on transitioning them to normal accounts.
None of them have ever accessed the plex website, only the plex app through mobile devices, smart TV’s, etc. so no settings have been changed by them or me that would dictate these aspects of plex to no longer be working.
Literally nothing has changed so once I’ve confirmed all these settings are exactly as they should be I don’t know where else to go from there. Just plex broken for whatever reason.
Ok so in doing some troubleshooting I’ve found more issues. Managed users have always been able to search content from my server in the past, so I dont know why all of a sudden they not only cant search MY server, but ANYTHING on plex for that matter (including free VOD content).
HOWEVER, I just noticed that for me personally, under the ‘Online Media Sources’ tab in settings, under the “Display ‘more ways to watch’ in search results”, if I have that disabled it will not show ANY of my content in the search results. It still showed plex VOD content mind you, just not mine. I don’t know if this is normal operation or not.
I have dug into every setting you recommended checking, and cannot find anything wrong, yet one by one, more and more of my managed users are reporting they are having the ‘no results’ page show up when they attempt to search anything. In limited testing with them, they report that accessing through a firestick, chromecast, etc seems to still be fine, it is only tablets and phones, both iOS and Android that they are finding the problem.
attaching logs here as well for full transparency in case they happen to have any answers
