user to add subtitle when watching a movie/TV-show from a shared "friends"-plex library

Missing a smart function in Plex :

  • Users missing a specific language-subtitle when watching a movie/tv-show from a shared friends library should have the ability to get this feature via a new function in PLEX:

  • GUI: add a push button next to the drop-down sub-title menu to trigger the function.

  • Function: scan some of the largest sub-title sites online to try and find the appropriate subtitle and/or implement a function in preferences where the user itself can manually specify a local library to be scanned or even possibly a url string to enter if the user knows a specific site that hosts subtitles.

  • Execution: once subtitels found for the movie/TV-show in question then show the list in the PLEX Gui for the user to manually select the subtitle.

This function is implemented (to scan some of the larger subtitle sites) at for example www.streamnation.com that is trying to complete with PLEX but adding all movies to a user-online library instead of the PLEX share content model.

Kind regards

I’m sorry but I cannot get behind this. I would never want to give my users the ability to add anything to my server.

I’ve been thinking about making an auxiliary tool to Plex to allow adding things from the browser. I mainly wanted something that would let me add my Bandcamp purchases to my Plex server all from a web browser, but adding subtitle files also sounds like an excellent idea. I’ll update here when/if I make any progress on this.

If the server is not yours, you won’t succeed in adding anything to it…
OP talked specifically about a foreign shared server.

Ah whoops, didn’t catch that bit of the post, my bad.
