I’m pretty sure sure that I’d set up the username shking years ago. However I recently received an email that Plex had created a username for me. And shking is reportedly “already taken”. What happened?
Plex requires different user name for the main Plex functions and for these forums. It is a relativity new requirement or it is recently becoming more “forced” and Plex is cracking down on those that have not complied. There was an email quite a while ago about it. I deleted said email a LONG time ago.
Plex has become very “■■■■” about things like user accounts. I would say that, in this case, everyone should just comply and move on. There is nothing to be gained by fighting this change.

Please compare the email address to which the notifaction mail was originally sent
to the email address shown here: https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/account
If they’re different, then this is about an old Plex account which you are not using at the moment.
You might have forgotten about it or didn’t realize it when you started to use a different account.
