Using 2nd Synology NAS as a Library

Server Version#: 1.32.8.7639
Player Version#:
Synology NAS 1 DS920+ DSM 7.2
Synology NAS 2 DS418j DSM 7.1

My libraries have increased beyond what I’d expected. And now I’m trying to migrate my TV Series library onto the 2nd Synology NAS box.

Plex runs and operates fine on NAS 1. But I’m running out of space.

So far I’ve created a mounted folder on NAS 1 to 2 and put a few test files into the 2nd NAS, But Plex cannot see them.
I’ve added the mounted drive in TV library. But it doesn’t find anything during the scan.

I assume this is a credentials issue, I thought with it being mounted and controlled my DSM it would just see it as a normal folder (CFIS).
I can see the remote folder and navigate to its contents from NAS 1 File Station.

I cannot find any PlexMediaServer credentials anywhere on NAS 1 to add as a user on the 2nd NAS, as I assume it would need them.

I’ve decided to stop meddling before I break somethinng important!

For NAS 2 – you give “EVERYONE” “read” permission.
(Apply to folder, sub-folders, and files)

You also create the NFS export rule for those shared folders:

It will look like this on NAS 2 (The other NAS holding more media files)

Now you :

  1. Enable the NFS service if not already done
  2. NFS mount the NFS 2 shared folder and set to automount at startup.
