I recently ditched my HTPC which was running Kodi. I got a Synology 1815+ and replaced the HTPC with an Nvidia Shield. I’m still running Kodi on that and everything is perfect. In another room I have a Roku 3 which I am running Plex for the first time. I’ve put many hours into acquiring all the artwork and storing it locally as well as the nfo files that Kodi uses for the movie/tv info. I used Mediaelch for the bulk of this.
How can I get Plex to use all my existing info and artwork? I don’t want Plex to go out and get artwork I may not like or have to worry about it not getting the proper movie.
When I chose ‘personal media’ for my agent in the library settings even if it used my artwork it didn’t acquire ANY movie info… no description, writer, director or anything… I assume because it didn’t look at my Kodi nfo files… but it didn’t even get the movie year correct which is baffling since its part of the name of the file!! It used the ‘date modified’ of the file for that info…so even 50 year old movies it was telling me were from 2014!
One other issue I had even if I let Plex do all the scraping itself was for movies where I have multiple versions… Star Wars Episode IV for example. I have the Harmy Despecialized edit and the Grindhouse 35mm edition. Similar for all 3 Star Wars movies… but Plex is only showing one of them in the library… and actually is seeing both of them as a single movie.
What I mean is if I browse in folder view I can see both versions of this movie.
I played 15 minutes of the Grindhouse version… went through the folders to find the other version… no matter which one I pick it plays the Grindhouse version… even when I go to the Harmy folder and select play it asks if I want to continue or start from the beginning…even though I’ve never played it…
Anyway… how can I get to use EVERYTHING I have and nothing else?
I hope this is possible for me or this may be a deal breaker for this software and have to purchase more Shields…
Hey thank you OttoKerner…
Looks good but I still have a problem as my experience with the Synology isn’t much more than Plex.
I acquired the files to do this but I have no idea how to access the Plex folders on my NAS. Actually besides my shared folders that I created myself I don’t know how to access anything that the NAS uses… I see no way to see any kind of system folders.
How do I find this directory on my NAS? ~/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-ins/
I am not a NAS expert myself, but take a look at the Synology FAQ, Q15

You will need to enable ssh on your nas and then login via ssh to see the folders you are looking for.
To enable ssh, you will need to go to your control panel and enable it in the Terminal and SMTP section
Once you have enabled it you will need to login.
If you are on a mac you can use the terminal program, if you are using windows you will need to download an ssh client.
You will need to login with the admin account credentials that you use to login to the DSM
I use Macs, so to login I open the Terminal program and enter:
ssh adminaccountname@192.168.1.56
where 192.168.1.56 would be the ip address of your nas.
Once you are logged in you will need to become ‘root’ in order to be able to access the Contents in the Plex folders.
to do this enter
sudo -i
then press return, you will need to enter your nas password again.
Once you have done this you will have root access, so be very careful…
On my 1815, the directory is here:
/volume1/Plex/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-ins/
I’m in with PuTTY and went through the Synology FAQ but can’t get past here
No matter what I type in it says directory does not exist…
I may have it now.
I got a different SSH terminal. MobaXterm
Thank you very much guys. I just loaded a directory and it is using all my stuff. Just one small problem… an issue with the double movies (Star Wars). Its still recognizing only one… may be an issue with my nfo’s on these particular movies… I’ll have to look in to it.
Gonna give the tv shows a run next and see it those work just as well.
